Rin lost her battle with cancer this last week. Rin has been a fixture at Valpo since 1980. Her work with athletics and recreation spanned all those years. She also taught for the PE/Kin Dept for all those years. I have known Rin for 23 years. She never failed to give me a hug and a smile. But it is all the students she touched and mentored and inspired that is the true measure of who she was and is. Rin was involved in Campus Recreation during her years at VU. The fitness center we have now was her inspiration and her passion. I would like to propose that that Building be dedicated and named for Rin. It is her building. If you agree please contact the Athletic Dept at Valpo and pass your support along. Let's get this done for Rin!

Swimming has 2 scholarships-one for the men, one for the women.

Don't hold your breath for a new pool or a new field house.  Money is extremely tight and fundraising is going toward the endowment.  As someone said previously, unless a donor or donors hand over a huge amount of money specifically for a pool and a field house, it's just not gonna happen.  The ARC itself is stuck where it is unless a donor steps forward for that too.  Athletics, and athletic facilities are just not a priority.

It WASN'T because he was looking for another job. That came later.

Valpo Football / Re: Different Perspective on Football

Actually, I am not a big proponent of keeping football for enrollment and having more males on campus. Smarter students usually mean smarter athletes.  Another year, 1-10, yes, Carlson should go. But, again, he had a huge task ahead of him when he started here. I am not sure anyone could turn the program around any faster. The administration can't suddenly decide they want to support the sport and expect immediate results. That, unfortunately, is not the way it works.

Valpo Football / Different Perspective on Football

I have worked at VU for 17 years and observed the changes in our student athletes under the tutelage of Tom Horn, Stacy Adams, and Dale Carlson. I don't know if other folks have noticed the change in our student athletes since the Dale Carlson era, but I certainly have.  Finally, the belligerent, unhappy, lethargic and semi-students of past eras have moved on. Coach Carlson has managed to recruit and keep a group of young men who are dedicated as much to the classroom as to the football field.  It would be a shame, at this point in time, in my opinion at least, to get rid of our current coaching staff and watch someone have to start over again. Carlson had a very deep hole to dig his team out of. He, and his staff, deserve another year.
BTW, I am one of the women who didn't find her way here getting lost on my way to Pintrest!

You will NEVER see a new pool on this campus.  The people that make those decisions think its too expensive and that there really isn't any interest or need for one.

Well that was a few day ego fest for Bryce.

FYI '03, the last time I checked we had a WOMEN'S basketball team and I would venture to guess that the folks who post here are concerned about the best interests of those WOMEN.

Listening to the Drake game right now. Sad and embarrassing. 28-0, still 3:09 first quarter.
Now 35-0 at end of 1st quarter. Maybe the guys can run for the bus during halftime. Drake could go to 100 if they so choose.
