Looking forward to this one!

It had better be a little taste of redemption - certainly a good shot at it.

And, to accommodate ESPN I suppose, it's an early start - meaning I'll be there in person, with my family.

Even though my expectations have again been lowered, I don't even see a performance like last night causing us to lose to CSU this year, as they are bad.

Twitter reporting that Trey Lewis has a broken finger on the LH and will be in a cast for about 4 weeks and then some rehab. CSU has had a bunch of injuries early. Nonetheless, always want to win against Gary... by a lot. Hopefully, the team has had an introspective review of their performances, and come out ready to pounce.

A CSU fan I follow on twitter insists that we will win by 40 points.  Even with this new injury you mention stacked up on all the rest, I refuse to buy into such hyperbole.  I'll have to see such a thing to believe it.

seeing as the students won't be back yet, i'm kind of disappointed that this game is going to be televised nationally. but i'd like to think that we can recover from last night and play well enough to win. i'm thinking somewhere in the 10-15 range will likely be the margin of victory.

Yes, it will be played on ESPNU for a national audience..... and also for DOZENS of fans watching at the ARC.    Keep the recruits away from the mausoleum (Berman) this time.

To draw fans, they shouuld give away free cheese at the ARC in honor of the legendary Kenny "Mouse" McFadden.   Those were the days.

I don't know if those of us at the scorer's table ever thanked for crowd for their cheese slices that night... at least they were wrapped and made for a quick cleanup.

I'd suggest that the folks who normally sit in CC or DD come down to the Student Section seats and GET WILD to get on TV...but I'm not an usher.

OH, and Bryce won't beat anyone by 40... he's been calling off the dogs at about 25 and settling in...

We will dominate a beat-up CSU team, Luke Gore will say in the post game that they had a great day of practice between games, and we will know nothing more about where we're at going forward than we do right now.

This is Luke's 11th year.  The last time I looked at the banners hanging from the rafters, we have 2 since Luke has been here - 2003 and 2004.

(Talk about throwing me a hanging curve over the middle of the plate... ;))

Wouldn't we have 3 banners in Luke Gore's 11 seasons on the Crusader bench? 2002-2003, 2003-2004, and 2011-2012? Sure, there is a wide gap in there, but I'll agree. He hasn't helped us as much as some of the coaches that were in his seat previously. I'll be honest, I've also never been a big fan of Jake Diebler on our coaching staff. He was a decent player, but I feel like his style of play got into his coaching, and has made it so our guard play is more about the loose ball, rather than doing the productive things to get the ball in the nylon. For as many of you that want Bryce to stay at Valpo for 20+ seasons, maybe it's time for him to branch out, expand his horizons, at a school that will pay him more, regardless of his record at VU. How many coaches throughout college basketball haven't had amazing records at one school before moving on to another school? It's inevitable, in my opinion, that Bryce moves on to a bigger program. Not saying he'll go to a B1G Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 school, but he'll end up somewhere that will pay him, and provide money for coaches that won't be as cheap as Valpo has been.

Not sure if I should connect the dots here, or not.

As wh was saying rather, but not quite, directly we have more than two banners.  They're just not all hanging over Homer Drew court.

To be fair to Luke, part of his tenure has been the move to the Horizon, which was a big move up from the Summit and thus the need to recruit at a higher level.  I presume Luke has been part of the recruiting success we've seen of late.

You connected the dots perfectly.  Truth219's question about the number of banners we've earned in Gore's tenure gave me another vehicle to raise the "misplaced banner" fiasco (not that it matters that much to me  ;)).

The banner thing really doesn't matter -- cuz, in our newly refurbished and expanded ARC (dedicated in 2023) all banners will be holograms which will be hung in every room including the restrooms.  The players will be holograms as well and they will electronically send in their performance wirelessly without ever having to leave their dorm room.  Of course, no one will physically attend the games in the bricks and mortar ARC, because they will be seated in their living rooms where they will create a virtual ARC and not have to leave their couch.  Their holograms, in turn, will project to their assigned seats and the place will be PACKED for every game. GO CRUSADERS!

I cleaning towards agreeing with truth on the Capo issue.  He isn't scoring near the hoop he isn't helping in the paint, he can't seem to get off the floor and dunk or block shots.  I was glad to see Vashil get a lot of time tonight and I really liked the substitution patterns tonight.

I hope Bobo figures it out and shows off why IU recruited, because right now we are only really seeing why they didn't fight too hard to keep him.

Note: I really don't like dogging on players like this

Bobby just looks sloppy even down to his facial hair....I mean he was advertised as a cory johnson type finess player but its not working for me. Give vashil some more minutes

According to Paul Oren (https://twitter.com/NWIOren)... Rossi has some unnamed medical issues, and Boggs just had some turf toe.

Much better game than against Loyola, but I'm still flabbergasted at the number of stupid turnovers. How many of those losses so far this season would be wins if just unforced turnovers were eliminated? I'd wager at least 3. And how many of our wins would be blowouts?

I'm not telling you what you're "aloud" to do--I find it funny that you are all picking on a guy not two months removed from hernia surgery.

Gee!  Do you think MAJOR ABDOMINAL SURGERY might have ANYTHING TO DO with his newfound struggles?

I also find it funny that you Internet Tough Guys would never say anything like that and put your name to it--let alone to his face.  Hernia or not, I'm sure he'd show you how wrong you were.

Id say it to his face....I don't mind yelling at the top of my lungs to take him out at the arc while sitting in section b...wwhere a lot of the players folks sit. I paid for my ticket I have the right to say whatever I want as long as it isn't crude. You can use that hernia crutch all you want, but its obvious bryce doesn't mind sitting guys that aren't 100 percent....ben boggs turf toe. I'm pretty sure what we see is what were going to get. He is an awful defensice player. He loses his man all the time.

And you're awful at spelling, grammar, and punctuation; but I don't call you out on it.*

If you watched this game tonight, and all you have to say is "Capo sucks", then you don't have a problem with him.

You have a problem with life.

Seriously, who watches a 25-pt blowout and rags on the backup big man playing hurt?  That's like watching "Mad Men" and complaining about how bad the children in it are at acting.

(*that's praeteritio, my favorite trope)

Seriously, dude, you don't know how good you have it.  Guys like you watch the US Olympic team win gold and say crap like "there weren't enough assists" and "LeBron sucked tonight".

I like will...he has a lot of talent like I said before he just needed to get his head out of his a55...he did that tonight. Buggs looked good tonight. Dority can force his shots at times. Yes it was a 25 point win, but against a team that is rebuilding and injured. They were awful..they missed 20 shots in the first half...and didn't take advantage of our turnvers. I personally still didn't think we looked sharp tonight...our rebounding was the bright spot...and the fact we won

Unbelievable: Valpo wins by 24 points and this is the kind of comment posted. Clearly, there is no way to satisfy some folks. As for Bobby: he had 6 points in 12 minutes (Kevin had 6 points in 20 minutes), which when averaged to a starter's 24-30 minutes for Bobby would be a fine 12-15 points. By comparison, CSU's two big starters, Kamczyc (an HL preseason 2nd team selection) and Long played 33 minutes and had 0 points.

He should've had 10-12 points if he makes his lay ups. My IU friends gave me warning what they saw while he was there, and I'm just hoping to prove them wrong....so far I can't do that. I'm hoping its a healing process from his surgery (I think his leaping might be affected but his hustle up and down the court/stamina where things I was warned about). I'll give him a few more weeks.

Hard to score 10-12 points when he only took 5 shots, unless we expect him to make them all.

When all but 1 was a foot from the hoop and basically uncontested its not that far of a stretch. I'm not trying to trash the guy, we need him to play well, we need him to be better which if its from his injury I'm willing to wait a few more weeks and hope for some improvement in his stamina and mobility.

Ryan had a quiet double-double, especially after going almost the whole first half without a score. Jordan also nearly had a double-double. But Will and Matt were the other two who had outstanding games, though Matt missed a number of threes and free throws; so here are a few photos of the two of them.

One picture shows Matt after he got smashed on a drive and no foul was called. He was hurt pretty badly in the ribs and in a lot of pain for a long while. He angrily let the official know it, and it was clear to me the official realized Matt was right. I had some doubt that Matt would return to the game, especially with the big lead, but he came back to continue scoring, including the shot shown here, for which the official was sure to call a foul as well:

Exactly! I don't know what some of you folks were expecting from our transfers but from my viewpoint both Capo and Dority are already better players than I was expecting and Coleman is way better than I had hoped. Vashil on the other hand is playing just about as he was described and we still have no idea what Rossi might contribute. My disappointment has been  with some of the senior class and the slow integration of all the new parts and pieces (coaching?).

We did get to see Capo play a little 4 tonight and I still have  hope that the go-big option will be given some mileage. Working in all these different lineup combinations is going to take some time and patience, but I continue to believe that it will be well worth the wait.

ya know, i think truth's comment about liking bogan was the first positive thing they've said since joining this board. granted, the night started off with another round of 'capo sucks,' but i guess we'll have to take what we can get.

i like that bryce never really completely called off the dogs last night - he let them continue to run through their offensive sets and never let csu back into it after the lead got up to the 20 point range. and every time, csu tried to make a run to get back into it, we answered with a big bucket to drain their momentum. kudos to bogan and kenney for big nights from range, and rowdy on another double-double. that said, we do need to find a way to get the big guys back into the swing of things. kvw looked a bit disjointed last night, but vashil showed some potential.

I think Vashil could block more shots if he did not rind up everytime, he's always late.

CSU does a good job of overloading against opposing teams' best offensive weapons and forcing others to beat them.  They were all over Ryan from beginning to end and collapsed someone down low to help on interior defense.  That left others like Matt and Jordan wide open at times.  One time Matt was SO wide open he had time to look down and check his foot placement before he shot. In another sequence Jordan missed a wide open 3 from the left baseline, Capo (I think) got the rebound, whipped it back to Jordan still standing unguarded at the same spot, and he shot again.  Not to take anything away from their accomplishments, but it won't be often that they have easier opportunities to score than they did last night.

It's another reason why Ryan was clearly the MVP of the game.  Rather than forcing anything just to get his points like a lot of no.1 players do, he quietly went about his business knowing that others were going to get better looks and trusting them to get the job done.  Even then he still finishes with a double-double. I have never seen a guy with his level of talent be so unselfish.  He IS the ultimate team player.

Well said, I agree.  Opponents are going to force players like matt, will and ben beat us.  They will have to step up.

And, if memory serves, they got _that_ rebound as well, and finally scored a bucket.  A memorable sequence.

Here it is:

According to Paul Oren (https://twitter.com/NWIOren)... Rossi has some unnamed medical issues, and Boggs just had some turf toe.

Much better game than against Loyola, but I'm still flabbergasted at the number of stupid turnovers. How many of those losses so far this season would be wins if just unforced turnovers were eliminated? I'd wager at least 3. And how many of our wins would be blowouts?

To be fair, Paul didn't say directly that Rossi had medical issues.  But, it's probably a reasonable assumption that Oren thinks he does.

Men's basketball: Valpo comes out firing after loss, players-only meeting

Notes: Boggs missed the game because of turf toe, a problem that has been bothering him since the Murray State game. He would have been available in an emergency, with Drew estimating his capacity at "50 percent." ... California transfer Alex Rossi, who last played against Purdue Calumet, has been dealing with "medical" issues, and will be further evaluated, with more expected to be known in the next several days, Drew said.

I cleaning towards agreeing with truth on the Capo issue.  He isn't scoring near the hoop he isn't helping in the paint, he can't seem to get off the floor and dunk or block shots.
Bobby blocked a shot last night without fouling for what feels like the 5th time in the last couple of weeks.  I don't know what Capobianco you are watching.

On the other hand, I am getting sick of seeing him unable to finish at the basket, especially when lightly/un-contested.

Maybe blocking shots wasn't right, but certainly isn't scoring by the hoop or helping very well when his teammates get beat by a driving opponent.

There were a couple of doozies last night, for sure.  I remember well Coleman going up for a dunk attempt - only got the ball sort of half-way above the rim.

Did anybody else wonder why in the world ESPN would choose, going to commercial, to show the Porter county courthouse instead of the Chapel?  Here have one of the great structures in college and a striking image particularly at night, and they don't show it?  Can you imagine them doing a Notre Dame game and instead of showing the golden dome, choose to show the South Bend City hall?

I heard that they wanted to show last year's HL championship banner as they went to break but couldn't find it anywhere inside the ARC.  So, they assumed that the University must not be interested in showcasing its basketball achievements on a national stage, and put up a stock photo they had of the courthouse instead.

Didn't get to see any of the game last night.    Will take the big win even tho it sounds unimpressive to hear the posts.

What was the game atmosphere?    Lame?   Glad we caught a bad team for game #2 of Christmas break.

When the students come back I wonder if they will go to any of the January games or just wait for the Butler game at the ARC?

Box score say 3676 with no students.  That could be pretty close as it looked like there we quite a few folks in the upper deck.

i agree, the building looked pretty good last night, and even the student section had people in it (granted, mostly families and such).

I want to say the women's basketball team was sitting in the student section too, at least from what I saw on ESPNU, but those who were there would know better.

The lower level was pretty close to full.  The upper level looked 1/3rd to 1/2 full when I looked.

Was just perusing through some old game threads of Vashil's early days. Little did we know that three seasons later, he'd lead the nation in blocks.

Vashil couldn't even catch the ball.  Now hes catching the ball in stride and dunking.
