Back to reality. Getting back doored constantly, then compounding the situation by fouling them after we get beat. Shouldn't we have anticipated this, given that this is the second time we've played them. Poor preparation, bad coaching, and a lot of low bb IQ's out there, it seems.

tiny707

UNI has a good coach and court and band.

AB

Failing first test after beating up on the bottom feeders. Can we win if the 3 ball isn't falling....yes, but the D, getting carved up in the interior, recognizing the cutters, who the shooter is!!. Not making them uncomfortable on D at all. Effort and determination there from our players, details/defensive positioning/IQ non existent.

VALPO LI

Bottom feeders at the half this evening:
Evansville is down by 4 vs Belmont and Illinois State is up by 4 @ Bradley.
Valpo down by 17
Shine on Vu

David81

VU's ceiling consistently shows up in shooting & scoring stats against weaker vs. better teams. Krikke is the only player who tends to hold his own against better competition, whereas King shoots a lot and misses a lot to rack up points. Everyone else is all over the place, often posting abysmal shooting %s. If we were in a four-team league with Evansville, UIC, and Illinois State.....

Kobe King got his double digits in points (14) to keep his streak of double digit points in each game this season going. Although the guys who aren't making threes, such as King (0 for 6) and Q.Green (1 for 6) should not keep shooting threes if they keep missing them. It really hurts our team three point shooting % (8 for 31, 25.8%) when we have guys who can hit some threes like Connor Barrett (2 for 5, 40%) and Maximus Nelson (2 for 5, 40%).

Reason why teams give Kobe open looks from 3. He gets away from his bread and butter slashing into the lane. Krikke, tremendous effort tonight. Green, needs to slash to the hoop more, especially if his shot isn't falling. This team has no margin for errors.

The good news is that Valpo gets an easy W against Evansville on Saturday, and there will be clueless leaders at Valpo exclaiming how much this team improved and no changes are necessary.
Prove me wrong...

I doubt it will be "easy".  Evansville just lost to first place Belmont by 9. Of the teams we have played twice, Belmont and UNI, our performance has been worse the second time around.  Expect a tight game and possible loss.

Reminds me of Detroit and Oakland games at the ARC.

It seems that whe the 3's aren't falling they either come too quickly or when the shot clock is winding down. I know I sound like an old fart, but we would put a hard stop on shooting 3's in many situations. I am not sure why that has not been the case in several games.

King is 6.5% from 3 in conference play. 2 for 31.

It's almost impressive.
I believe that we will win.

As bad as Kobe is at shooting 3's he is impressive at getting to the basket and making mid range shots. But if he did start thinking pass to Conor or Maximus first the results would be so much more to the positive and could make a real difference of finishing 8th or 9th. Did I just say that?

Same kind of things many Valpo fans are asking about this coaching staff.

These schools are closer than many think they are (113 miles) and compete for students and are rivals in many fields. Now that they are in the same athletic conference I think the passions of the fans and players will be extremely high.

and the beat goes on...in recent years we have not had good point guard and "2" guard play on a consistent basis.  Good teams have good point guard play and consistent outside scoring threats.  In general we have recruited small guards like D'Av and others who often times can handle the ball without alot of turnovers but thats where it ends.  They can't create offense, shoot or get to the basket and finish.  We fart around with the ball but get no consistent, aggressive offense.  When you cannot shoot well and can't get to the rim you're done even when you don't turn the ball over.  In the past, when we have had good teams we have had some good shooters and good point guard play.

But you haven't noticed that we have smoothly transitioned from the positionless, open court fart around offense back to our more structured and traditional fart around style of play. Big differences! Huge!  ::)

You hit on the frustrations of all frustrations for me - why on earth are we unable to recruit perimeter players that can shoot the basketball? And, if they can shoot it, why are they so erratic from one game to the next? Why do shooting percentages seldom improve the longer players have been in the program (e.g., King, Barrett, Edwards, Clay, Javon, Harris, the guard that got arrested with Mileek, Mileek himself, on and on)? Where's player development?

JD24

I agree with the perplexing problem of shooting woes of guys who have the reps of being good shooters. Some of them just weren't good shooters after all. Donovan Clay can't shoot from outside to any great degree. Others got hurt. Green is inconsistent which is a mark of the guys Valpo have brought in as tranfers. There is always some fault either on or off the court which shows up. King is a different matter in my view. His issue is in his head.

They don't get as many good 3 point looks in this offense.....
