Hey Friends,
Remember years ago when ESPN took votes to see where the best college basketball atmosphere in the nation was; and thanks to an intense ballot-stuffing campaign Valpo ended up 9th? Well, we have another opportunity for some ballot stuffing for those who are Facebook savvy with the Naismith Awards: student section of the year award. Valpo broke the top 25 last night and is now up to #23 in votes. If your on Facebook, follow the link and vote for the ol' Brown and Gold once a day until Feb 6. If nothing else, it's some bragging rights and a way to embrace our competitive sides, right?

Let's do it!
The last ballot stuffing effort has turned into a great propaganda piece. Let's do it again!

We're making progress as Valpo now sits in 16th! Apparently, the "Sweet 16" make it to the next round on Feb 6. Keep spreading the word and voting every day!
up to 15th now :)
By Bye Florida... By Bye Boise State... Valpo #13 and Climbing!
This seems like a good opportunity to congratulate the student section for their attendance and enthusiasm lately. As noted on this board in recent years, there have been times student support for the team appeared down; however, the turnout and energy—especially this semester with conference play—has been admirable at home and away games, as seen by the rowdy (and "Rowdy") fans in a couple of my photos from the Green Bay game last night, a mid-week meeting that normally would have a smaller crowd. I can verify the noise descending to the court from the student section has been impressive and much appreciated by the players.

we're now number 11, having jumped the orange. i'd love to see us get past marquette and break into the top 10.
Someone should definitely ping this thread once a day - keep it up!
Let's go! Top Ten Push!!!
Is there anyway to tell how many votes Marquette is ahead of Valpo?
Vote enough times to pass them? ;)
Since you sign in with an email address, I believe you can vote multiple times per day if you use different emaol addresses.
Wait you can sign in with email? ..I've been blowing it off 'cause I quit FB last year.
NOW YOU KIDZ GET OFFA MY LAWN
Good Morning... We are now #10 !! Next Up? Illini...Vote !!!!!
Our ascent continues as we crack the top 10! We have passed Marquette and now set our sights on Illinois for the #9 spot. Looking at the top 25 since Wednesday, we are the only team making a big charge...and for a school and alumni base of our size compared to others on the list, I think that's saying something about the passion and community of Valparaiso University and Valpo basketball. Since prior to our game against GB, this is what has happened in the top 25:
Weds: Today (1/26 AM)
1. VCU 1. VCU
2. Kansas 2. Kansas
3. Purdue 3. Indiana +1
4. Indiana 4. Purdue -1
5. Gonzaga 5. Pitt +1
6. Pitt 6. Gonzaga -1
7. Utah St. 7. Utah St.
8. Iowa St. 8. Iowa St.
9. Marquette 9. Valpo +14
10. Illinois 10. Illinois
11. BYU 11. Marquette -2
12. Syracuse 12. Syracuse
13. Boise St. 13. BYU -2
14. Florida 14. Boise St. -1
15. Colorado 15. Florida -1
16. Saint Joe 16. Colorado -1
17. Dayton 17. Dayton
18. Southern 18. Saint Joe -2
19. San Diego St. 19. Southern -1
20. Washington St. 20. Washington St.
21. Auburn 21. UNLV +4
22. Mizzou 22. Auburn -1
23. Valpo 23. San Diego St. -4
24. Maryland 24. Mizzou -2
25. UNLV 25. St. Bonnie (UNR)
Maryland was the only team to drop from the top 25, St. Bonaventure is the new kid on the block, San Diego St. lost the most spots, and UNLV gained the most (besides Valpo).
When I was a freshman, the ESPN #9 propaganda was still very much used and I felt like as a fan, I had a reputation to live up to which made me feel less silly for getting excited about mid major basketball. After the 9-22 season my sophmore year, that propaganda flew out the window, and it's been a slow recovery ever since. My hope is that a strong finish (or win!) in this contest can give current and future VU students a new reputation to buy into! Keep voting and spreading the word! We're kicking butt!

It seems the Amesians have recognized our assent and has taken on an offensive position.
Looking at the rules a little bit.
If we're the top Horizon League vote-getter in phase one (seems likely) we get $250 towards the general scholarship fund, and, I guess, bragging rights as "Student Section of the Year" in the Horizon league.
Then, the top 16 overall vote getters move on to phase two voting.
After that, the top 8 are judged for the grand prize. Here's where it gets down to brass tacks. The criteria are:
-)Does the Student Section have a name? (10 points)
-)Does the Student Section coordinate its attire? (10 points)
-)Average attendance for student section as compared to overall seating capacity of the venue (up to 10 points, scaled based on ratio of attendance to allowable tickets)
-)Spirit captured by photo submission portion of the nomination. (up to 10 points, scale of 1-10)
-)Spirit captured by video submission portion of the nomination. (up to 10 points, scale of 1-10)
-)Rank based on the results of Voting Phase II (up to 10 points, top vote getter receives 10 points, second gets 9, etc.)
-)Review of paragraph explaining why student section should win which was included in the nomination. (up to 10 points)
With the winner getting $10,000 towards the general scholarship fund, and a plaque. And bragging rights, of course.
So, I don't know if we can compete with a good entry from e.g. Kansas. But, a carefully prepared entry might not do too badly, even among the final 8.

Well...we've got the HL wrapped up because we are the only Horizon team nominated ;). Or we are the only team that nominated ourselves, the admin must see some value in the contest otherwise they wouldn't have put in their hat. Some schools apparently don't care, i.e. Duke is not an entry. I think IMC will be well prepared if it gets to that point!
Kansas won last year and I agree that we really don't have much of a shot at winning it all, but a top 8 finish of the 160 entered schools would be worth bragging about still.

1) Valparaizone
2) Not always, but doable (see NIU, WSU, and soon UDM games)
3) Does VU keep track of student attendance? With no ticket sales to keep track of, I don't see how they could. They barely glance at our student IDs on the way in, so I don't see how a reliable count could be tracked. Nonetheless, considering the avg overall attendance is what, 2500? 3000? I think the student ratio isn't bad.
The rest of the criteria are judgement calls, and it'd be hard for Valpo to compete against bigger schools.
For what it's worth, I do think VU has the best student following for basketball in the Horizon League recently, self-nomination aside. Of course, having a first place team sure helps.
I agree with point 3 above. If the average attendance is 3000 and 300 kids show up on average that is tough to beat for a place like Syracuse of North Carolina or any other huge arena.
Quote from: hailcrusaders on January 28, 2013, 01:24:24 PMAverage attendance for student section as compared to overall seating capacity of the venue
that's one thing, but compare it to as a % of the campus population? c'mon people organizing these criteria! we'd take it to NC or Kansas or whomever in that case!
I have heard them say "click" when entering a game with our passes. I think one of the ticket takers has a clicker they hit for everyone that enters with a VU ID, which would include students, faculty, staff and their families.
Still in 9th... after my vote
Well we need to change that Cyclone student section into the Blow Zone and blow them away. Let's do it!
Voted! Picked up a referral somehow too. #VoteValpo
Ok, East Coasters, time to cast your vote for Jan 29th! Still stuck in 9th...is it destiny?
Percentage of overall attendees in the student section is not so easy compared to big schools. Kansas' student section is 2500-3000 out of 16,300. Iowa State has a very high ratio too. My guess is that Duke is very high since their seating is only about 9000.
Good work late nighters! We've once again passed Iowa State! It's just like Myspace now...it's all about being in the top 8.

St. Bonaventure has been going nuts over the last week or so. The biggest losers have all fallen from the top 16: Florida, BYU, and Boise St. The top 4 have been pretty well set since the beginning of this thing, with a push, I think Valpo could break the top 5 by round 2 though.
We now have the Pitt Pass, time to get Ziggy on the Zags.
Actually, lets Ram the Valparaizone all the way to the top & take VCU. If we have gotten this far we can go all the way to the top.
Historyman... Well Spoke-ane. Just voted, we are at #6... wonder what Bonnie did.... thats the team that now scares me, if they are doing some really heavy marketing to their alumni.

The Izzone at Michigan State consists of 3000, or 20% of the total number of seats, and it is ALWAYS 100% used, and there is a waiting list. A feature, for which I applaud the University, is that most of the izzone seats are in what is considered prime locations.

I've been wondering how they handled that. I didn't see any rules. Nor do I see any clear indication that my vote (or votes) is counting - no running total, etc.
Are you sure all of your votes are counting?
I'm not sure, no, but it does say "thank you for your vote" each time.
Pathetic showing tonight by the Valparaizone....Good thing voting is about over because they lost my vote.
Yeah pathetic really...pretty empty everywhere
Criticize if you want, but just realize there's a lot of stuff happening around campus right now with this being a big exam/paper week plus a gala tonight for one of Phi Mu Alpha's brothers who died in Afghanistan. There are actually bigger things in life than making it to one basketball game, whether you guys believe it or not...

I guess it's appropriate then that the Valparaizone was passed by the Venturous Bonnies. Now in 7th place.

Understand you sentiment and I also wish the "zone" was packed at every game. Still, as our young friend pointed out, there are other things in life or death, as the case may be. Not sure if you are a Valpo grad, but getting in is one thing, getting out is quite another. KEEP VOTING!!
The vote is all about school spirit, it would be nice to see the community get more involved with VU events sometimes, this is a great opportunity for it to happen
Here we go again....anywho....excited to see the Zone bring it when Detroit rolls into town. I bet Valpo gong gets a booster, if voting is still open, after that night.
Isn't there voting in phase II as well? If that's the case we cannot stop voting now, regardless of your displeasure for the attendance tonight. If anything, vote out of school pride and for the scholarship VU gets if we win.
And as a student, I can vouch for all the exams this week. After all, VU is an academic institution and I hope you understand that well enough to keep supporting the Valparaizone.
Tuesday nights are also nights for major labs. Just because the basketball team has a game on Tuesday night doesn't mean the university has to stop everything so all students can go to the game.
We had the same schedules, but still managed to have a lot of students at each home game. I was disappointed as well, as I have been for several games. I understand there is more to life than basketball, but also in life, you have to be able to juggle many things at once. I thrived in undergrad doing a full class load and 20-30+ hours/week in baseball (still attending every home basketball game for at least a half), and after that, worked full-time and went to MBA classes at TCU at night for 2 1/2 years (2007-2009), which was a 45 minute drive from where I worked each day. Yet, I still managed to get out and do things other than just work and study. If you are a fan and true supporter, you make sure you get everything done around watching your team, to be able to support them as best as you can...not just for TV cameras
I think excuses don't explain a poor turnout since we all know that many more students would have found a way to attend had the game been on ESPN or the opponent been someone like Butler. Still, I give credit to those students in attendance last night, who were energetic and loud. A special salute goes to the fans who performed with the Crusaderettes at halftime:
Of course, I am sure there is a dedicated bunch that makes each game, and they are to be commended. I have never liked fair-weather fans, or those that go for TV purposes. The Mavs have been absolutely terrible this year for various reasons, and I still go to several of those games, even with us probably missing the playoffs for the first time in 13 years.
I voted all of my emals a few minutes ago... and yes, the bonnies passed us... They must have done some sort of email blast to their alumni... for that kind of spike...
As for the students? Sorry Tx, but there are dozens of additional night classes this year that have never been night classes before. Remember the comments about the NIU game last November on a TUESDAY? The analysis said that more students would miss class to attend a night game than would miss to attend a morning game... Ta Da!
As for the voting... all we need to be is in the top 16 to "move forward in the competition"... lets see what they roll out tomorrow since today is the last day to vote in round 1...
and after that game last night? I'm guessing there are a lot of students who say they watched it... but did not come to the arc.... a great performance by the guys!
I can understand night classes, but are you truly saying that it is hard for a few hundred students to come to a mid-week game out of a student population of 4,000? Obviously, there are many people that probably don't care about sports...but how large are our student stands anyways? It can't be more than 300 or so? Unless the timing of night classes changed, I believe they start at 7 pm? Therefore, they could always come for the last 10 minutes of the game if they are true fans...I did that after my night classes.
The Bonnies up to #5! Passing Gonzaga. Valpo's still at #7.
Let's be honest, do you really think we have one of the top ten student sections n the country...I mean the excuses that the student section was half full on Tuesday were comical. I mean I watch games every night and besides on winter break you don't see a poor student turn out much. Sure they are on tv but still. I mean knowing that we were in the hunt for best student sections and the students did show up....I'm afraid this contest means more to alums and fans than it does to the actual student body

I'm a bit confused as to your point. So our student section is NOT top ten and puts out comical excuses? But then you don't see a poor student turnout except over break. So are we good, or not?
I definitely can't speak for everyone but I voted 45 times through three different email accounts, out of pride, loyalty, and if nothing else for the scholarship VU gets if we win. I don't think anyone is claiming we (or St. Bonnie's for that matter) outcheer IU, Purdue, or Kansas.
Also I see the I Love College Hoops link shared around on Facebook nearly daily. There is no way VU could have outvoted so many bigger public schools without SOME student support.
It's one thing to vote your way into the Top Ten. It's another to be a Top Ten student section. I admit, it's fun to see the votes coming in just to see what we can get out of this, but I'm still not perfectly sure how to feel about the result. I haven't voted for this personally, and come to think of it, I share a lot of these kind of things without even voting myself. Guess I've got other things to do :)
Perhaps the biggest reason I'm not all "gung ho" about this is that I remember too many days where the section has been pitiful. I was in a student section of about 20 for a Sunday game with Green Bay a couple years back. Another game a year earlier we had less than 40. I even wrote a Torch article about the lack of consistent support.
In my opinion, it has been better this year. Just seeing it more than half full for a non-TV game makes me happy enough, but I can't wait for the days when it's always full like it should be.
I have praised the student section on this board a few times for their support this year, but I can't buy the excuses for the weaker attendance at the UIC game. The reasons given were that Tuesdays are a bad night because of classes and that it was a big week for exams/papers. Well, the final regular season home game, which will be Senior Night for six players, is also on a Tuesday evening and in the final week before Spring Break, which is a time when even more exams and papers are scheduled. If those excuses given are accurate, we would expect a low turnout for the Senior Night game similar to what we had against UIC. I don't expect that to happen.
If you can't take 1-2 hours out of your week to support a team that you say you are a fan of, you are not a fan. In a homestand, that maybe becomes 2-4 hours in a week (if you catch at least one half in each). An absolutely pitiful excuse to not attend a home game, as you should be able to better balance your homework and studying. If you can't do that now, you are going to struggle when it comes time to get outside the college 'bubble,' and succeed in the real world.
I had not seen anyone post the rules... now that we are firmly ensconced into Round 2... here are the official rules:
6. Winner Determination:
a. School Winners:
i. First Prize Winners: After the conclusion of Voting Phase 1, the school with the most votes from each of the twenty nine (29) conferences, listed below, during Voting Phase 1, will be a potential First Prize winner. Conferences include: America East Conference, Atlantic 10 Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference, Atlantic Sun Conference, Big 12 Conference, Big East Conference, Big Sky Conference, Big South Conference, Big Ten Conference, Big West Conference, Colonial Athletic Association, Conference USA, Horizon League, Mid-American Conference, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, Missouri Valley Conference, Mountain West Conference, Northeast Conference, Ohio Valley Conference, Pacific-12 Conference, Patriot League, Southeastern Conference, Southern Conference, Southwestern Athletic Conference, Sun Belt Conference, The Summit League, West Coast Conference, and Western Athletic Conference. In the event of a tie, the school that received all votes first will be deemed the potential First Prize winner for the applicable conference.
ii. Grand Prize Winner: After the conclusion of Voting Phase 1, the sixteen (16) schools with the highest vote totals will appear in an online gallery for public voting as described in Section 5a during Voting Phase 2. After the conclusion of Voting Phase 2, [FEB 8 - FEB 22] the eight (8) schools with the highest vote totals (each a "Finalist") will be evaluated by the Naismith Board, based on the judging criteria listed below.
o Does the Student Section have a name? (10 points)
o Does the Student Section coordinate its attire? (10 points)
o Average attendance for student section as compared to overall seating capacity of the venue (up to 10 points, scaled based on ratio of attendance to allowable tickets)
o Spirit captured by photo submission portion of the nomination. (up to 10 points, scale of 1-10)
o Spirit captured by video submission portion of the nomination. (up to 10 points, scale of 1-10)
o Rank based on the results of Voting Phase II (up to 10 points, top vote getter receives 10 points, second gets 9, etc.)
o Review of paragraph explaining why student section should win which was included in the nomination. (up to 10 points)
The Finalist that received the highest score from the Naismith Board will be deemed the potential Grand Prize winner. In the event of a tie, the Finalist which received the highest score for Spirit captured by photo submission portion of the nomination, as determined by the Naismith Board, in their sole discretion, will be deemed the potential Grand Prize winner.
b. Sharing Prize Winners: The twenty five (25) registants who have accumulated the most points at the end of Voting Phase 2 will be potential Sharing Prize winners.
This vote is about school spirit and our student section, which-when full-is pretty awesome. Do I think they really belong in the top 10? Probably not, BUT getting an award from a contest like this can give future students a reputation to live up to. I know that it was hard during my tenure (07-11) to get my friends to be really excited about any Valpo Sports. Even when we were in 1st place in the HL my senior year, people would still say stuff like, "yeah, but it's Valpo." "What's the CBI?" "What's the CIT?" To be honest, one 9-22 season does way more damage than a string of 20+ win seasons does good and I think we are just now recovering student section wise from that year.
I think we are definitely on an upswing, but an NCAA tourney appearance is needed THIS YEAR to keep momentum. Get back to the tourney regularly like we did in TX's time and the students will come. So, do we belong in the top 10 right now, nah. but CAN the ARC be a top 10 atmosphere...I believe it can. Spoken from one who now stands on occasion with the Cameron Crazies.
First, let me say that I was at the game Tuesday, and plan on attending every game that I possibly can, exams or no. So I'm not trying to defend my own absence, and don't have anything personal invested in this debate. I was also disappointed in the low turnout for Tuesday's game, and did my best to talk as many of my friends into going as possible.
That being said.... I think our expectations here are a juuuust a touch high.

I don't think one forfeits their fandom for missing a game. If that's the case, there are precious few true fans at this school, or any school. Nor do I think that consistent basketball attendance is an accurate reflection of success in the "real world." A "bad" student who won't succeed in the real world would have forgone studying at all and went to the game anyway, to butler with exams. Spending the night studying at the library instead of the ARC, as avoidable as it is, shows that the student's priorities at the end of the day are with their schoolwork, where they should be. Could/Should they have gone? Probably. But are they a bad student for not? No, quite the opposite, in my opinion.

Apples to oranges here. Yes, Tuesday game, exams, etc. still apply, but just the fact that it's senior night, the last regular season home game of the year will draw a higher crowd. The YSU game will have more hype. There may also be t-shirt giveaways, etc. And any student who remembers harassing the sanity out of Jerry Slocum last year will want to witness that again. Last, but certainly not least, that could be the game in which we clinch the HL. All of which are factors that were not applicable to the UIC game.
As I read the Round 2 rules, apparently there is another round of voting. The top 8 schools get judged by this Naismith Board on other criteria. So it appears that if we don't vote our way into the top 8 again, nothing else matters. So how about we keep voting like last round?
The game Tuesday night was (and will be) the most poorly attended out of any home game this year while school is in session. Please don't write the Valparaizone off because of one night.
You missed the general point I was making on that part. It isn't that you won't succeed in the real world if you miss a basketball game, it is that you won't succeed in the real world if you can't juggle many things at one time. If anyone has high aspirations for their career, their multi-tasking will be a big determinant of how far they go. If someone feels that they are a really good fan of the program, they will be able to juggle these multiple tasks, to be able to attend at least a portion of each game. Yes, you may miss a game here and there, but the general home student attendance has been pitiful outside of a chance to be on TV. I am speaking about this overall showing, not just the one game. Students are making excuses for what I felt was such an easy thing to do, even while being committed to normal classes/studying/homework, PLUS the additional 20-40 hours/week an athlete puts into their sport. If I could do it and make each game, then a few hundred students should be able to do so as well, even if it is not the same students each time. Our team is 18-6, 8-2 in conference, and in first place for crying out loud...
Quote from: valpotx on February 07, 2013, 02:19:30 PMYes, you may miss a game here and there, but the general home student attendance has been pitiful outside of a chance to be on TV.
Can you refer to any specific games to back that up? I think student attendance has been pretty good this year, at least compared to the last few years.
Quote from: valpopal on November 10, 2012, 10:34:02 PMHere are some of the photos I took at the game. Quote from: valpopal on January 24, 2013, 07:01:02 PMThis seems like a good opportunity to congratulate the student section for their attendance and enthusiasm lately. Sure, obviously the UIC game we just played is one. Another I remember is the GB game you mention above, as the quotes even indicated 'for a Wednesday game.' Day of the week should not matter for getting a few hundred students IMO. You also state 'compared to the last few years.' This would be a correct statement, that it has been improved versus the last few seasons, but it still is not as good as it should be. Granted, I went to school in a time where below 4,000 fans at a Valpo home game was just pathetic, as we even drew more than that against Chicago State.

I don't know if it's much "defense" - but it has seemed like a busy week on campus. Along with the other events mentioned, there was some sort of an inter-denominational discussion opposite the game on Tuesday with the Chapel, St. T's, etc.
And, just with academics, I know several of my students were on 0 sleep when they made it to class on Wednesday.
So, I encourage my students to come out and support VU Athletics, particularly the basketball team. But, I also don't mind when they give their classes greater priority!
In terms of drumming up support for the campaign - it was featured on the front page, above the crease, of the Torch last week

The details on voting are a little murky. But, good to see the publicity. And, there was apparently some outreach to alumni (though I'm not sure I saw anything...).
Anyhow - I think it's clear that a good finish in this contest would be a feather in the cap of VU basketball, and can only help to continue to build our student section.

Valpo is now 6th - passed by Pitt and Kansas.
I will make an honest comment that many here will hate (and note that I did vote for Valpo and hope Valpo wins this contest). I have been to many Valpo games and I have been to many Kansas games. While I like how much the student section has developed over the years at Valpo, there is no way that it is better than the Kansas student section.

There's also a difference between a large state school with 29,462 students and a small private college of 4,061 students. They have 25,403 more students to pull from, and 5335 more students graduating each year to potentially show up at their games as alumni and 5335 more students to donate large sums of money to their athletic programs. I'm happy with where the student section is at compared to the rest of the Horizon... UWM literally had a student section of 6 people the game this year vs Valpo.

Recent Torch op/ed about fan support.
QuoteKudos to VU fan base
Kelli Wosick
A major part of any college experience, in my opinion, is going to a sporting event and cheering on your home team. Whether you enjoy sports or not, when you are at an exciting game, it is hard to not start cheering along with the rest of the crowd and support your school.
Personally, I believe the crowd at a basketball game is the best, because throughout the entire game everyone is cheering and standing up, clapping and shouting out to the players. Basketball games, as well as other Valparaiso University sporting events, are filled with school spirit and energy, so it is no wonder VU was nominated for the Naismith Student Section of the Year Award.
In honor of our school being nominated for this award I want to give a shout out to everyone on campus, because you essentially make up the student section of any sporting event. For those of you who wear crazy outfits, paint your chests and start all the chanting at games, props to you. I especially want to call out all the fans who headed up to the Milwaukee game on the fan bus a few weeks back. Our student section of about 50 students out-cheered Milwaukee's entire arena of fans. That is some true dedication and school spirit right there.
As an athlete, I know just how important a cheering crowd can be, which is why it is important we keep going to sporting events and supporting all of the athletes here at VU. Fans are what get the athletes pumped to play, and what keeps them motivated throughout the entire game, because no one wants to lose when you have a whole stadium of people rooting for you.
So, for all of you who religiously attend VU sporting events, keep it up, and for those of you who rarely attend or have yet to experience one, get out there. College sports are intense, exciting and leave you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire game. As students, you probably know some of the athletes, so it is much more entertaining because you can see your friends at their best, doing what they love most.
VU's school spirit has been recognized as one of the best in the country and we must continue to live up to this label. This means keep going to sport events and cheer as much as possible. No, you do not have to dress up in a weird outfit or body surf among the crowd, but go out in school colors and show your support. The athletes and other fans will appreciate all the spirit we have here.
I put a couple bolds within the story for the things that caught my eye. I'd rather say thanks to all that are attending instead just including all the students, since we clearly don't have 4000 student fans coming to games. Also, I don't think "call out" is the best word choice for the Milwaukee section. "Call out" usually has a negative connotation, not a positive one like is used her. What's good though is that she's clearly giving some recognition where it is deserved.
Nitpicking aside, it's fun to see an op/ed about fan support positives instead of recent stories I've seen and even written for the Torch about the lack of student fans.

I wholeheartly concur. It really is great to see the Torch complement the students instead of blasting them for non-attendance.

Writing in the Torch, I suppose she's expecting a student audience.
A nice piece!
My fault for not being clearer. I meant all the students that are attending versus complementing all the students in general.
Down to 9th. We need to be in top 8!!!
Still 9th! Too low! Get out and vote, today!

Great turnout tonight! More of that please!
I thought when they were chanting daddy's boy that they were saying Ray you suck
In terms of "The Shot" voting, CBS is showing the TOP 10 BUZZER-BEATERS at 11:30CT, prior to the start of the Ohio State-Wisconsin game at 12CT. I'll definitely check it out, to see where Bryce lands in this poll.

So, where's it go from here with The Shot?
Voting continues?
Was at the game on Saturday and commend the student section for their efforts. Turn out was impressive. But what was up with th # and 1 dudes who shot FTs. Both were 0 for the time out. Really? It's Indiana, hit your free throws. If they were Phi Delts, it's a sad sad day for the best fraternity on the hills of Valpo U.
My wife sent me a link on Facebook that has Valpo's Harlem Shake as the best so far! We are down to 10th in the voting despite my best efforts.

I thought I felt a lot of hot air lately. That must have been the Cyclone student section from Ames, IA blowing by us into 9th place.

Huh - so that's what was going on over there. From AA I just sort of saw the tricycles and wondered.

Yes, the students should be proud of the attendance and enthusiasm at Saturday's game, as a couple of my photos below show. I think this should be the atmosphere more often during a season.

The Harlem Shake they did also was VERY close to getting us a technical...the officials had to run in and get the students away from the Detroit huddle and off the court. At one point, they were literally withing a foot or two of the Detroit folks standing around the timeout.
I love the enthusiasm, love the noise and love how full the place was, but my goodness what would the reaction have been if they assessed us a bench technical....
And it didn't even get the PA announcement! That was for the inflatable beach ball action that got a little out of hand...
Besides, shouldn't they warn you first? Now, VU fans, if you Harlem Shake again, we're going to T you up! ;)
Double checked the rule book, and the phrase "Harlem Shake" does not appear once. ;D I guess that's why the rule book includes the all-important "elastic power" rule to give refs the authority to judge matters not directly in the book.

Maybe the technical would have helped us :)

We were down to 10 yesterday, but we're back up to 9. Voting ends Friday. If you have a gmail account you can register as many accounts as you'd want by adding periods and plus signs to your user name side of the address.
Still at 9, just put in my 21st vote! Also voted for the shot!

Unfortunately the Cyclowns have passed us again and were back in 10th place.
Just two days left to vote. Is a surge possible?
