There has been talk about changing the School's colors, mainly changing out the brown with black or green and leaving the gold. I'm seeing small changes with some school uniforms not going with the traditional colors. Yes, the current rage is camo and pink for certain occasions, but some certainly don't look like the original colors. There has been some blowback from alumni but times are changing. Look at some current schools, mainly football that have really whacked out uni's. Today's youth, like it or not, look at fashion when picking out which schools to play for sometimes. Thoughts?
Nonsense. Black? Sure, we could look just like Purdue and what? 150 other schools?? The football uniforms look great. Different shades of brown with gold. I'm seeing the use of our accent color (yellow-green) in many places. It makes the brown and gold really pop. No need to change so that we blend in with so many others.

"There has been talk" - from who? There's no way the university switches color schemes, especially after a huge rebranding effort a couple years ago. There's 1 other team in all D1 and pro sports that uses brown and gold as their primarily colors (Wyoming) and there's a bunch of teams that use black and gold. Brown and gold are unique, and are great in publications. They added a 3rd color (citrus?) as an accent that blends well. Not as a replacement to brown.
Going from a unique, classic-looking scheme to an overused black and gold scheme would be a colossal mistake. Let's try to avoid mistakes like UWM... they have a black and gold color scheme and create new logos every other year to try to stay unique. Their brand is an absolute mess. We have a unique brand and athletics should reinforce and advance the brand.

Also Western Michigan.
There are a bunch with Maroon and Gold, which is kinda close. Definitely don't want to go there.
So
stay Brown and Gold. The distinction is worth it, plus I believe the rebranding that was recently done has done a great job of constructing a palate that is easy on the eye and attractive. The involvement of white as a background (canvas?) and the occasional use of the green accent for publications works very well IMO. I even liked the silver MBB unis with the Brown and Gold lettering as a change of pace. Has MBB ever used a dark brown base color for their away unis? I don't think I'd like that, but the milk chocolate brown that is the base now might look kinda cool as well.
Football's brown is the darker version, but that looks OK against the green turf background I guess.
Keep the brown and gold....just start using the lime green or whatever color it is for a third accent color. A number of years ago we tried gray along with everyone else, and substituting the black for brown which I think is a joke. As stated earlier, isn't it great to use black like 300 other schools. Now that's something different isn't it?
I believe the lyrics go, "Hail to the brown and gold"!!!!!!!!! ( I'd like to see maroon as the 3rd color and lighten the brown tone a little)
The colors are fine with me. I say, embrace them. If I could change anything, I would have "Valparaiso" on the uniforms rather than "Valpo."

I wouldn't suggest that the university start chasing the fashion whims of 18-22 year old kids. What's "vogue" today will be "unhip" tomorrow.
I have no issue with brown and gold as colors. I mean the brown goes back to the last name of one of our founders, not just a random color option to stand out from the rest. Valparaiso changing brown and gold to black and gold or anything else would be like Stanford going from a cardinal red to black and blue. It just wouldn't make sense. Valpo stands out because of brown and gold, not because we did the same thing everyone else did, or we'd be jumping off the bridge to join a new conference every year (ala Butler for two years).
I agree with wh. We shouldn't let 18-22 year old students change what has been tradition and historical understanding because the "pc police" are breathing down their necks.
For over 60 years I've lived with the B&G.I like it! However should the football team win less than three games this year, the colors pink and white would be more appropriate. Or on the other hand,DROP FOOTBALL!
I really don't care much about colors.
Interesting about the "accent" color. I think it's pretty awful.
Plus, 10-15 (maybe 20 years ago?) they made red the third color...for a while...what happened to that?
I like our colors would never want to change. But I went to a high school with Orange and Brown as our colors.
Here are some schools that use brown that I could find:
Western Michigan University: brown & gold
Rowan University: brown & gold
Adelphi University: brown & gold
St. Bonaventure University: brown & white
St. Lawrence University: scarlet & brown
Bowling Green State University: orange & brown
Brown University: brown, cardinal & white
Wyoming University: brown & Wyoming prairie gold

And of the 4 on the list with Brown and Gold, Adelphi is D-II and Rowan is D-III, leaving VU, WMU and Wyoming the only D-I schools with that distinction.
Not all golds are created equal. Valpo's gold more closely resembles school bus yellow than metallic gold. Notre Dame's gold is a more accurate representation.
If there is going to be a change then an adjustment to the "gold" color is all I would want to see.
Western Michigan uses brown and metallic gold (or Vegas gold) like the Rams and Saints. Valpo and Wyoming use athletic gold like the Packers and old Rams. We venture to the metallic gold in the football unis, something which I think is a big mistake because Wyoming wears their brown and gold so well.
Going to a metallic gold would be a huge mistake. We've worn athletic gold jerseys forever, which have always looked good and then we'd have to switch to brown or some Washington Wizards 2006 looking jerseys.
Truthfully, I'm not concerned about the color gold that VU uses for athletics...both athletic and metallic good can look good within a well-designed scheme. I'm more concerned that they stick to one color palette and use it across the board for all athletics. Also, ditch the black from teams that still use it...black is now a decade-plus old design gimmick that is more than played out. Same goes for the baseball camo. Best look baseball's had in years is the gold "throwback" worn in the HL title game 2 years ago.
This also goes for the way the school name, nickname, and mascot are presented: ie block VALPO for basketball and baseball, script for softball. Valparaiso and crusaders in script for baseball but block for softball.
