New season!
Is this the thread for Horizon League games too? Or do we usually have a separate one?
Green Bay's taken Stanford to overtime in Palo Alto.
https://t.co/Ec50cTYCz3 live now in overtime for the Green Bay radio call. 77-76, Cardinal up 1.
Or it's on PAC-12 network if you've got lots of channels on TV.
Middle of the pac in the PAC 12 preseason poll, but, still.
Green Bay's new coach won DII championship last year?
Carrington Love, can't help but think of him as Mr. Handgun, 32 points on 6-9. Stanford wins 93-89. 70 free throw attempts?
Their Tuesday AM game is at _5 AM_ at East Tennessee State. The things you do to get on ESPN.
Belmont beat Marquette.

Women's game.
The pretenders: Wright State loses to NIU,65-59. NIU picked middle of the pack in the MAC
Milwaukee beats Santa Clara 71-65 (a close game all the way) Santa Clara is now 0-3 and lost to Lipscomb by 2 and Denver by 22.
Tuesday night 6 CT UWM at ND. I am very interested to see what the 3-0 Panthers can do against the Irish.
Wait! Lets switch uniforms with Milwaukee and let them travel to RI while we go to South Bend. How else are we ever going to get to play them? I mean RI might be willing to go along with the ruse, while nobody from their Notre Dame towers of elite isolation is even apt to notice the difference.
Watched the IUPUI-Marquette game on FoxSports1 last night, and Marquette has 7 freshmen, 3 sophomores, 2 juniors, and a single walk-on senior. This in the second season of Coach K's Steve Wojochowski. The Jags fought very well, but I expect Marquette to make a difference in the upper eschelon of the Big East next season.
So far, looks like the Horizon League is 12-11 in the non-conference.
That sounds better than the 8-11 they are without us.
And a lot better than the 5-10 they are without Valpo or Milwaukee.
There's more to it than just W-L records. But, it's not shaping up to be a good season for Horizon League RPI...
At least these non-D1 games don't count against us!
And, credit Oakland, I guess, for the undefeated start, 1-0. Will be interesting to see how it goes for them against the MVC (SIU) and MWC (Colorado State).

I did watch parts of the Oakland- Eastern Michigan game and their first game performance looked reasonably solid. If they can find a way to take both SIU and Colorado State (not likely but maybe not impossible) I will start watching them almost as closely as I am watching us.
Looking at our HL OOC schedules I don't think it (HL) can bring its winning % up without Oakland and UWM both playing well above expectations. A few UIC and YSU wins would also be helpful.
I see Milwaukee winning a lot more games because they are over their APR suspension from last season, so they can participate in the conference tournament. That was the only thing keeping Milwaukee from helping the conference last year. They couldn't go to the tournament, so they'd win or lose, but do what they could in certain to piss off the conference enough that they weren't a complete laughingstock. UIC is going to be interesting with Steve McClain. We need them to get some wins, but I'm not expecting huge win totals from this season for them.
Milwaukee will be better but Green Bay is going to lose a lot more games. They're switching their offense to a run and gun and aren't really built for that style. They haven't been a good jump shooting team (they made 1FG in the last 12 min of last years championship game) and it'll take a while to adjust.
Oakland drops a one possession game on the road at Georgia.
Overturned out of bounds call denies Oakland a chance for a three to win.
Kampe not a happy camper (went on the radio before going to the locker room!). Says he hopes the refs are suspended.
Do they fine coaches in the NCAA?
A certain Ozzie Guillen quality about him that I could enjoy.

Looks like Wright State @ 12/13 Xavier is on FoxSports1 in 15 minutes.
Xavier has run away with the game. It's currently71-33 Muskateers with 1:42 remaining.
Also, Rhode Island leads Houston, 39-35, in the second half.
67-57 win for Rhode Island over the Houston Cougars. This was Houston's first loss of the season and also their first away game.
Iona lost to Tulsa hurt. Tulsa rebounded their lost to ORU with a win against Iona.
Detroit home game, with Toledo coming to town. Maybe they can make some noise at home.
And I notice Milwaukee goes to Madison. They don't get the game in Milwaukee this year. But, still. There can be some perqs to being a public school. A game against IU this year, even in Bloomington, would be pretty interesting.
IPFW plays IU at Bloomington tonight...next year IU plays them in Fort Wayne, then in '17 they again play in B-town.
Detroit beats Toledo 75-72. Up next for the Rockets-vs Oakland Saturday
and Milwaukee beat Wisconsin...at the Kohl Center... Incredible...

Big win on the road for Milwaukee.
Biggest upset of the year for HL?
Biggest win in rivalry terms. Biggest win over all? Or maybe we'll have to wait and see what shakes out for Oregon State, Wisconsin, Rhode Island?
Wisconsin's RPI is now 96....
Wright State's win over #86 South Dakota at the beginning of the season ... well... ok... nevermind...
Valpo's win over #85 IPFW
Valpo's win over #60 Iona
So here are the HL teams and their Best Win and Worst Loss... based on today's Nolan RPI...
Valpo: Best: Oregon State #40 Worst: #173 Ball State
Young: Best: North Dakota #228 Worst: #244 American
Detroit: Best: Toledo #138 Worst: #42 Vandy
Oakland: Best: Eastern Michigan #99 Worst: #162 Southern Illinois
Milwaukee: Best: Wisconsin #96 Worst: Duquesne #139
Wright St: Best: #86 South Dakota Worst: #277 Cal State Northridge
Cleveland St: Best (Only) #337 Rider Worst: #155 Akron
UIC: Best... keep lookin' Worst: #322 San Francisco
No Kentucky: Best... keep lookin' Worst: #332 Eastern Illinois
Wisconsin's RPI will improve. We'll see.
Great night for HL last night. Detroit win against Toledo. Valpo against a MVC team and UWM beat Wisconsin.
Illinois has really struggled this season against some weak opponents. Escaped in regulation against Chicago State only via a buzzer beater.
[sic; Warren Nolan scorebook error]
They trailed UIC by _11_ at half time at the United Center, 41-30. Illinois now up one, 61-60, with 6:33 to play. ESPN3.
UIC with a bucket and a stop, 65-63 lead with the ball, 5:00 to play.
And then UIC has two players foul out and turns it over. The lead's going back and forth. 3:40 to play. Illini with two point lead and ball.
###
Ack! Turns out Warren Nolan had the teams switched. It was _Illinois_ up by 11 at half. UIC made a big comeback to get into the game, and was trading leads back and forth (I watched that part, on and off, from 6:33 to play).
UIC out of time outs at the end, and came up short, 83-79. But, quite a come back, evidently, in the first 10-15 minutes of the second half.
UIC 83 Illinois 79. Groce has to be yearning for the good old days at Ohio.
I wonder how widely reported the wrong score was? I assume Warren Nolan picks his up from some central database...
Oakland is 5.5 underdogs to Toledo tonight. Very interesting, considering Detroit just beat them and they only beat UWGB on a buzzer beating three.

Detroit was at home. So was Green Bay. KenPom numbers claim Toledo and Oakland are pretty evenly matched. So, on the road, Oakland's the dog.
(I'd not noticed Detroit's RPI has climbed to 34. Shame it won't last. But, hey, they're 0.500 against D1!)

I see that Nolan has reversed the score. That said, if there's such a thing as a humiliating win, this was it.

ARGGGGGG!!! Just watched Cleveland State v. Loyola. At the half it is 24-23 Loyola. As ugly a basketball game as I've seen since my daughter played in 5th grade. Also, if they say there are more than 500 in attendance they lied. It is bleak to say the least.
and the Vikings win it by 6... can't hurt !! and UIC is "hanging in there" with Illinois State with 7:21 to play...

Mark my words: NKU will achieve a double bye in the conference tournament in a shorter time than Valpo did!
Oakland is beating Washington like a drum. Up 21 in the second half and led by 20 at the break. Washington is 7-2 with victory over Texas and a 16 point loss to Gonzaga. Lindy\s did pick them to finish last in the Pac-12 so maybe not such a big win but still, a win on the road to a Pac-12 team still is impressive.
Oakland should have beaten Michigan State. I've never seen so many off-the-ball foul calls in my life. It really felt like the refs were targeting OU in the early parts of the second half to help MSU get back in it. Forbes is a chump, BTW. I hope someone from the HL sees him in the Tournament and makes him eat it.
Oh we beat Minnesota too btw
You'd think the home teams would be clear favorites across the board today in the HL.
WVUR post-game suggested YSU led for a bit in the second half, but Detroit's back on top by ten now.
Wright State does have a small lead at Milwaukee, in the first half.

Yeah, a lot of our people said the same thing, but the fact is we never won these games, even against bad ones. We played DePaul four straight years and we only beat them once.
Our history against high-majors isn't good. We don't win many of those games. I think a majority of those high-major victories came in the NCAA Tournament, where we have three wins all-time.
So as crappy as Minnesota is, it's still an accomplishment for our program.

We have no room to speak about Minnesota being poor this year. We lost to bad Nebraska and Missouri teams in the last few years. We also struggle against the Power 5 traditionally, but own most mid-majors.

Thanks Talksalot for this perspective. Based on what I see from 30,000 feet the next 4/5 games for all but Valpo will determine the standings. It seems like all the other teams have a tough 4-5 game stretch while Valpo's is relatively light. Our tough stretch is the last 4 and by then the other teams might have crushed each other. Of course then there is this minor thing -- the freaking HL tourney in DETROIT :o
