So coaches polls are out for five sports including Men's and Women's Soccer, Volleyball and Men's and Women's Cross Country. Valpo hasn't been picked in the top half of any of these and dead last in one.
Here are the results:
Men's Soccer: 6th of 7
Women's Soccer: Tied 5th of 8
Volleyball: 7 of 10
Men's Cross Country: 8 of 9
Women's Cross Country: 10 of 10
I'm sure some of this is due to the fact that we are a total unknown. I sure expect our Soccer programs and Volleyball team to be top half finishers. We'll see...
I noticed the same pattern. Glad you commented.
But some of those rankings kind of make sense on the surface when MSO lost the core of a 10-6 2016 team and VB returns 4 starters from a 15-19 team. Both teams add unknowns to fill open positions. Our CC squads were at or near the bottom of the HL so their ranking translates pretty accurately. OTOH, I thought WSO should have been rated higher (tied for 5th of eight could as easily been 7 of 8 by one vote), perhaps 3rd or 4th.
After this fall, our future relative competitive position will become clearer.

Valid points for sure. After I looked at our rosters I'll be surprised if we do much better as Men's Soccer only has 3 seniors, Women's Soccer has 2 seniors and Volleyball only has 1!!
Better to surprise them from below than to fall from expectations in the first year. Seems like the better deal for Valpo.
