I haven't been on this board much lately but I heard something yesterday that made me sad and thought was a great loss for the university and the athletic department in particular. I met Mel Doering while doing some research on VU when he was the university archivist. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Valparaiso University simply because he lived it. He and I have a connection that goes beyond the usual but also did not play that important of a role. There are others on this board that were much closer to him.

Mel was a good friend and he was The Crusader! Through and Through. He actually rode the horse around Brown Field as the Crusader...back in the day... so sad.
