Mentzignen and Garcia, who played together at FC Detroit this summer, both named all-Valley pre-season (just 11 players I think).
The men got thumped pretty good by Western Michigan (ranked #14 nationally or something, 10th seed in the NCAA tournament last season and went to the Sweet Sixteen) on the grass at Eastgate Thursday afternoon. But, hopefully things look up from there.
Valpo loses exhibition match to Notre Dame 3-1. The Crusaders are next in action Friday at 5PM at Brown Field against IUPUI as part of a doubleheader with the women's team who plays Toledo at 7:30.
Tomorrow is Opening Day for Men's Soccer! Hope to see some of you at Brown Field at 5PM!

Poor results continue this season, as we drop a 4-1 decision to ORU, moving us to 2-7-1. We usually have a great non-conference season and choke a bit in conference, so hopefully it is the other way around this season...
Took two this week with wins over Eastern Illinois and conference win vs, Bradley. Could be turning the corner.
VUMSO did not lose over the final six matches of the season for the first time in program history.
Had only one loss in conference play for the fourth time in program history
Highest regular season finish since 2011.
Highest finish by any Valpo team since joining the MVC
It was also VUMSO that won the first Horizon League Championship
The Crusaders are seeded 3rd in the MVC tourney and play #6 Drake on Wednesday in Evansville. We beat Drake 1-0 previously. The winner of that faces #2 Loyola on Friday. Valpo tied Loyola 0-0 in the regular season. The regular season leader was Centralk Arkansas and Valpo tied them 2-2.
Valpo grad Rafael Mentzingen was drafted by MLS Columbus in the 4th round (92nd overall), Wow!

Much deserved. He will play in USL 1 with the Lansing team, but I do expect to see him make some appearances in MLS in the next few years. Kyle Zobeck has carved out a nice career as a backup, but it would be great if he was able to play an MLS game, as I don't think we've had anyone make an MLS regular season appearance as of yet.
