Title: Week 4 @ Drake
Post by: valpofb16 on September 18, 2021, 08:12:33 PM
The Bulldogs come off a tough 2 game scholarship stretch after beating down D2 WV Wesleyan (who has since forfeited a game and lost to a d3)

That being said we have won at Drake once

Beacs 17 Bulldogs 21

The games from last spring really are not any indicator. That being said it should be closer but Des Moines' second finest will win 31-14.

Looks like Valpo needs to upgrade its offensive plays.  Running Washington up the middle every time doesn't work.

I wish I could make it but I will be at parents day at NW Mo St. if you guys need restaurant suggestions please let me know. Des Moines is a great city to visit.

When the guy is running for 5 yards a pop it actually does.

I don't disagree that the OC hasn't shown the ability to put a passing game of any consistent kind in place.

Why do people keep saying the games from last spring were no real indicator? It was a real game that counts in the official records. Teams practiced during the week and played a six-game schedule. It was real football.

No, it was an awkward season and many teams were not committed to the spring season. Many players held out for the fall. Just too bizarre to say it was serious, even the scheduling was strange.

Valpo loses Washington, Reese, Orekoya to graduation next season.

Hopefully Limbach attends some clinics or woof

Was there ever a list published of PFL players who were held out or opted out?

One could argue PFL was actually more talented last season.

Freshman were on campus 6 months longer, no one held out for NFL, transfers there 6 months longer.

One could argue. One could argue.

This should be a low scoring game.  Drake will put approximately zip on the board, unless quarterback Ian Corwin has recovered from his latest injury.

Best case scenario for me,  as a Drake fan:  Corwin starts, the Drake defense forces multiple tunovers, and the Bulldogs win, maybe 17-16.

It's exactly why I'm picking a 70 point total score game. Turnovers lead to points also and neither team's defense has actually played against a team that didn't have a fair to good offense. Dartmouth hadn't played a real game in over a season and a half. It showed. What if the Big Green had played the week before? 42-8!

Drake seems to recruit better in the Chicagoland area than Valpo. Not sure why.

Better stadium , records etc. if Valpo made an effort to upgrade brown field to even that of Morehead State you'd see an uptick in recruiting

Cecchini proposed a plan to c. 2016 at an alumni event.

They upgraded locker room, weight room, one big add on to brown field and they could leave it for another 30 years

Cognitive distortion. I like it!

Guarantees a Drake win  :)

Decent first half. Fumbles and interceptions.  Still tied in spite of errors.

The Valpo OL has been atrocious. Almost as bad as whoever the Drake color guy is.

The QB has been on the run the entire game for the most part and the Drake D has been in the backfield on most of the running plays as well.

It doesn't help that the entirety of the offense is Robert Washington and he coughed it up twice (and almost a 3rd).  I don't think Berry is very good but it is hard to tell since he's always on the run. Going back 3 seasons including the spring season last year, I don't think the OC has a clue how to put together a coherent offense for Valpo. Aside from the occasional jailbreak run, there is no rhythm to it at all.

I didn't see the start of the last drive. Did Nimz come in due to injury or did the staff come to the conclusion I mentioned above?

Whatever the case, it was a game that should have been an easier win which probably says more about the program progress than anything.

Beacs win! Will be a fun ride home!

Limbach however should walk home and reflect on his choice at QB and play calling.

No reason #5 should not be the QB until he decides to move on

That finish was fun.

I was wondering what it would take to make a change at QB. Nimz should start. He gets the ball off quick and sharp, and it looks like for the time being, VU QBs will be facing a lot of pressure.

It's been known Ben should be the starter since middle of spring season.

Limbach tries

Berry was missing some easy throws - one to Bingham in the middle of the field which he made so much more difficult and he'd have run for another 15 yards if he didn't throw in way in front of the receiver. Another on the sidelines which he led Becton out of bounds. Little throws that mean a lot.

Best catch that I have seen from a Valpo WR in some time.  Very smart to tip it to yourself, even though I didn't think there was a chance in hell that he would catch that pass.

I just re-watched the catch and I'm pretty sure the announcer called us the "beagles" before changing it to the Beacons!   :rotfl:

Pgmado - this game counts for sure and a huge win for the Beacos and the program. Rinse and repeat next week and let's generate success. I will still stand that the spring season was more intramural like than actual.

Not sure what has changed since the spring.  Davidson has the best of the existing teams although the Tommies may be better.  San Diego doesn't look like the same power they've been for many years. Valpo appears better and Butler does not.

So in other words the spring appears to be the same as now.
