The PFL has hired current OVC and Remaining (?) OVC employee as commissioner.
The 2nd commissioner since inception. The league has grown to 11 teams and a national schedule. With all consolidation in football conferences the reasoning of the hire is 1/3 things
Most likely: OVC is looking for a discounted partnership for "pay" games. Already seeing with Murray State/Valpo post 2024.
Somewhat likely: OVC is absorbing the top half of the PFL and positioning itself if teams jump ship.
Not happening: PFL as a whole going full scholarship. Valpo for sure could not handle it, not sure other schools finances
Mr. Walter's last day as Associate Commissioner of the Missouri Valley Conference was yesterday. Today is his first day as Associate Commissioner of the Ohio Valley Conference. Guessing that going forward, the PFL will be run from the OVC's office in Tennessee.
Not sure to what extent this arrangement will mean paydays from the OVC. Drake, for example, seeks the biggest available check. Those will tend to come from North Dakota State and South Dakota State... although Drake's biggest yet (for an FCS game) will come from Eastern Washington next year. I don't expect comparable money being offered by Tennessee Tech.
