The athletics site has articles about Valpo's track teams and their first meet. The scorers on both teams are dominated by freshman and sophomores. Doesn't mean will will have enough depth to start being competitive but does say that this coach is still able to attract good runners inspite of no track!
Here's the men's article:

While the results look good, these December meets are mostly "shake outs". What I mean is this meet is mostly to get an idea of how the November-December training has been going. A lot of schools will basically send their freshmen and sophomores to these non-scored meets, just to give the kids an idea of what their work has done so far. I'm not saying that vu72's impressions are good or bad, but that the schools at this meet, looking at the full results, didn't send a whole lot of anything to really give our kids a good impression. It was more to give our guys and gals an opportunity to break from the practice pattern, and put some of what they've been learning to use. I do hope these performances improve, and the team can do what it takes to finish in 4th or 5th in a six or seven team Horizon League, but I'll know better when we start going against full rosters, and not just small rosters of freshmen or sophomores in their first collegiate meets.
While the women's team has a limited number of athletes (12 or 13 as I recall), they are all freshman and sophomores. The men's team has quite a number of runners, again, many underclassmen. Whether or not they have the talent to compete team wise is a good question but at least the coach has numbers to work with.
