Title: Jordan Coleman
Post by: vu72 on April 10, 2012, 02:03:05 PM
With all the talk about newcomer LaVonte Dority there seems to be a lack of talk about Jordan Coleman.  I'm posting some stuff I found on this kid who seems like he may be very valuable to us for several reasons.

First, this article says he was the quickest newcomer to the Hawaii team (perhaps FWAlum can explain the speeds noted for certain tests) plus having a 35 inch vertical.  The kid is 6'4".

Then there is this highlite clip from his most recent AAU season.  What impresses me is his court vision, passing and finishing with either hand.  He also seems to be a pretty good rebounder. Click on the Spring 09 Highlights AAU.

It seems to me that Bryce is really adding a lot of speed so, can we expect more fast breaks? More pressing?  Can't wait!

I like the added athleticism that both of these guys and hopefully Fernandez will bring to the court.  That is an area the team was sorely lacking on last year.

Huh?  Did I miss the memo or something?  When did Jordan Coleman commit to Valpo?

It was the same day as Dority...I can't remember who came first.

Hard to tell anything exact from the speeds as the size of the box can vary, but just the fact that a 6'4" kid is beating the point guards at this drill is somewhat impressive.  Should indicate that he has the physical ability to be a good on ball defender.  Standardized 3/4 court sprint that they are talking about is from end line to opposite free throw line or about 75 feet. This is run at the NBA combine. Here are some of the recent times run at the combine.
QuoteThe fastest recorded 3/4 court sprint time was Nate Robinson (Boston Celtics) with 2.96 seconds.
The 2009 NBA Combine Class had Toney Douglas with a 3.03, and Patrick Mills and Jodie Meeks posted 3.10 or faster.
The 2010 NBA Combine Class had Trevor Booker (Clemson) as the fastest in the group of 53 in 3.10 seconds.  Other notable favorites include John Wall (Kentucky) and  Wesley Johnson (Syracuse) both posting a time of  3.14.  Evan Turner (Ohio State) ran a 3.27.
3.39 is not a bad time but I would think that Buggs is considerably faster.
Here is a link to a box drill video.

And Thanks! to FWalum for the detailed report on the speed test!

I used to hate that box drill.  We did it in baseball too
