During Saturday's intrasquad scrimmage, will the defense be wareing cleats or ballerina slippers? ???

Based on things you say on other posts, you are probably one of our oldest posters...certainly not one of most mature...embarrassing

Franklin graduated QB's #1 and #2. Their top returning QB threw only 5 passes. They also lost their top WR's.

Having said that, they did look pretty good last year.

How Tonagel gets mentioned in these discussions always amazes me.  He was a fine, smart player but he has no stats to even be in the discussion.

To me Grafs, Oppland and Barton on the front line is a no brainer...3rd, 4th and 5th in all time points..2nd, 3rd and 4th in rebounds...

Guards are tougher..I would go with Milo Stovall, 14th in points, 12th in assists, 5th in steals, 7th in 3 pointers as the shooting guard.

PG, I would take McPherson over Loyd or Berdiel.

My sixth man would be Urule.

When did Nebraska-Omaha join the Summit League?

Interesting website :)

Don't feel bad ... I've got a kid who plays in the Summit and I can't keep track!  I think Nebraska-Omaha joins in 2012.  University of South Dakota joins this year.  With Centenary gone and Southern Utah on the way out, the Summit is managing to compress their footprint while keeping the numbers up.

I knew about U-SD, but I didn't know about Neb-Omaha (or else I forgot).

The UNO deal was an interesting one. This was somewhat of a budget move for them as they dropped scholarship football and wrestling to make this move.  I believe they dropped them the week after they won the D2 Wrestling championship.

A bit more on Bobby.  From what I'm told from an avid IU fan is that Bobby is a hustle player.  He hasn't much of a jumper and isn't very fast up and down the court.  He also said Capo can have a bit a weight problem if he isn't careful and that might be something to watch as he is forced to sit out this next season.
From what I'm hearing, I'm liking this less and less.  Hopefully he can find new life here at Valpo and turn this doubter into an believer.

Since most avid IU fans are sitting around waiting for Bob Knight to return and actually think he might, I put zero credence in most everything that is said.  He need big guys, this one has some experience at the Big Ten level and in my mind is worth the risk.

Of course those qualities mean something..but that has been your entire argument and I am sorry but if he doesn't win ultimately he shouldn't have the job.  I think even he would understand that, you won't, but he would.

You don't get out much if you think this board has been unfair or even mean to this guy. Legitimate questions have been asked.  I think even he would understand that, you won't, be he would.

Again, the larger point is that Keith is not completely responsible for players developing.  They take a lot of the blame for their development.  Keith is a great guy and a hard worker and I can assure you that he is not the biggest part of the problem here.  I think rlh's points---not to mention mine---are valid due to all of the first hand knowledge.

Does he have any responsibility at all or is just being a hard worker and a great guy all we ask? He recruits the players doesn't he or do they just show up. I would like to think he is involved in their development but perhaps he is only involved when they are successful.
#1462
So, all of the sudden, after years of great coaching, Keith just forgot how to develop players?

For whatever reason, our player development has slipped the last few years. If you can't see that then this discussion is pointless. If the players are incapable of development then we are recruiting the wrong people.  Either way the coach has some responsibility here.  If we have now recruited the type of players we need.....good for us!

The downward spiral started the when Ray was not developed into a PG as a freshman or soph.  Her confidence was destroyed and she became a 5-3 SG. With Ray out of the picture we were left with 2 freshmen. Gick was headed down the same road as Ray therefore there was no choice but to play Richards.  Trust me, she was not brought in to start at PG.  She has done an admirable job in a tough situation.  Wayne is correct we have not been developing players, especially PG's for several years and losses are the result.

Where did this get started?  I brought this up mid season.

Bizoukas has plenty of options
By Mike Hutton on May 3, 2011 3:17 PM

Munster graduate Mike Bizoukas has offers from Creighton, Missouri State, Valparaiso University, UIC, Wright State, Loyola of Chicago, Western Kentucky and Loyola of Maryland, according to his father, Nick Bizoukas.

Bizoukas was released from the final year of scholarship from DePaul last month.

No word yet on when Bizoukas will make a final decision.

I love being part of an ilk!  Sweet!

276-226 at Valpo...four twenty win seasons...doesn't sound like 3 out of 4 games is a loss.  Sounds like you have short term memory.  Thank God you weren't in a position to fire Homer early on!

And for the record, yes, I am ok with losing 3 out of 4 if we have a program of integrity and academic success as we have had under Keith.  He understands what college is all about, unlike some of you around here.

His record and accomplishments are why he is still employed today and rightly so. At some point every college in America will no longer employ someone who is losing as much as we are currently even if they understand what college is all about......every college in America.  Hopefully, the new players bring us back and this discussion is no longer necessary.

#1467

what about this statistic dcvalpo? freeman gives 226% ALL THE TIME. how many other coaches can you say that about?

Wow if he can give 226% to this job he is wasting his time at Valpo perhaps he can cure cancer or solve the world hunger problem.

Seriously, just so I understand where you are coming from, if we continue to lose 3 out of every 4 games into the future, you are ok with keeping this coach.

Athletes! Something we need.  Richardson and her 5-0 younger sister (a year behind also at Vincennes) we very enjoyable to watch in HS.

This brings us to 16 players giving more credence to RLH's comment on Gick
#1469

all freeman has done at valpo is work hard to try to develop this program into a winning one!

No offense but we are winning at 38% level in the Horizon League, 26% in the last two, at what point do you think someone should question what is going on?

i find it difficult to accept the harsh criticism and foul play being brought out against coach freeman. kicking him out to the curb at this point would only breed more instability!

See my comment above.

he is the team's glue.

You are kidding right?  First time watching NBA playoff basketball?  Playoff basketball is all about hard fouls. If you think the Pacers are roughing your boys up, wait until they face a legitimate playoff team.  The Pacers are the 8 seed and are giving the Bulls all they want including physically.

BTW, his name is Jeff Foster.

The women's tennis program is about as low as possible.  If you think that 72's records look bad, dig a little deeper and see the number of 6-0 6-0 losses and it is mind boggling.

Anyone who knows of a HS female tennis player who wants to play college tennis needs to direct them our way.  I know of a pretty good junior who has tried to make contact with the coach but her inquires have never been returned. Sadly, I would think our coach would welcome any interested party.  Time for this board to do some recruiting!

It is nice that their consultant recommended they apply to the HL.  Since there is zero percent chance that the HL would be interested one wonders why a consultant could not have figured that out.

Now, the OVC is a legitimate possibility. With the addition of SIU-E it sits at 11 schools and to be honest is a better fit for NKU with actual potential rivals in Kentucky.  The Big South sits at 11 schools as well though the distance is an issue.  As always the Summit will take just about anyone (except Chicago State) and the Great West currently sits at 5 teams.

Did I miss something here? Does Valpo really need a Howard Little spot/role? He had a nice season and all, but his role was out of necessity, not out of design.

Milan, did you watch Butler last year? They had a Howard Little role as a starter.  Perhaps what we are talking about is that Little played the role of Willie Veasley.
For the record the top 5 teams in the HL this year all started 3 guards so it would appear that in this league that role has value

Hunter tried like heck to turn his Mid-Con championship into a money maker at a bigger school, but it didn't work....Not sure this one is a step up, or the one he was looking for, but all the best to him.  He's fun to watch....

Not sure this is a step up....where have you been in the last 2-3 weeks. He is going to the CAA from the Summit.  Think Valpo to the HL with 3 near Butler level teams.  The CAA put 5 teams in the post season, 3 in the NCAA plus one 20 win team who elected not to play in the CBI or CIT.  It is a big step up.  GSU has a lot of similarities to IUPUI but with the addition of football they appear willing to spend some money, something IUPUI did not.
