I wasn't able to watch the second half or press conference, but was there any reason for the lack of playing time for Bobby? Any injury or just playing poorly? It just seems odd that in a game where Valpo seemed to lack an interior offensive presence (5 pts combined from Moose, Vashil, and Jubril) that Bobby would only get 12 minutes of playing time. Even with his recent struggles he is still averaging 7.9 ppg and has shown the ability to score inside, even though some of his acrobatic shots are a bit miraculous.

Quote from: valpotx on December 31, 2013, 03:47:54 PMDo the ladies still practice against a team of guys?  One thing that stuck out to me while in school, was that Amber Schober, Marlous, Suzie Hammel, etc, would come to open gym and play against us to 'toughen' up.

Yeah there is still a scout/practice team made up of guys that they practice against. Saw them in there a few times towards the beginning of the year

1:30 tipoff this afternoon over on ESPN3, it will be Keith Carter's first game against a D1 opponent for Valpo. UCF is coming in on a 4 game win streak, including a 86-58 win last night over Rio Grande, so it will be a quick turnaround for both teams.

Valpo wins 89-46 in one of the fastest games of the year, just over an hour and a half.

Dority 18 pts
Peters 16 pts
Carter 8 pts, 5 ast, 3 reb

Also all players under 20 minutes played with the exception of Jubril (21) and Vashil (22)

Crusaders just can't miss from 3. They're 13-16 so far at the under 16 media timeout

Quote from: valporun on December 21, 2013, 11:39:14 AMFunny how a trip to the NCAA tourney increases numbers in the student section and band.

Also helps when games are scheduled on weekends. Last year first semester games were:
Fri, Tues, Wed

This year first semester:
Fri, Sun, Sat, Sat

It is not listed on the ESPN3.com schedule for Saturday, however I will make sure to post a link if I'm able to find one on another site.

Just to clarify, crusadermoe, are you talking about football games or basketball games? Because the student section has been 90-100% full for all of the basketball home games while school has been in session this season. Also the student attendance is fairly strong for football, it's just harder to track because of the lack of a designated "student section" at Brown Field.

Performances like that get you Player of the Week, not just Freshman in my opinion.

No idea why Bryce stuck Vashil back in there while him and Moussa both had 4 fouls. No trust in Bobby to play the 5?

I'm seeing a lot of "ifs" and "but let's disregard the numbers" type projections here, so I'm not seeing much value in their analysis.

This is what the all-sports calendar on the Valpo Athletics website says, so it looks like they're changing the game time for Volleyball I guess...

So which is it, record or not? According to Inside Indiana Business it is not a record if it is the largest class in 32 years. While I applaud the effort to grow the university back to previous levels I think this puch to 6000 is a little bit foolish.  I have not heard one other prominent university say that they are going to grow their enrollment by 35%.  I think we are putting the cart before the horse, grow the endowment and the rest will take care of itself.

So lets say we grow to the size of a Wake Forest... their endowment is 10 times the size of our's.  How do we maintain that size and the additional facilities and infastructure?

I understand your concern but I think comparing endowments is not the point.  In our case the facts say that we can add students without any (or not much) new facilities.  We are talking about adding 1000 new undergrads and the balance of grad students who would be living off campus, at home or otherwise. I'm told that many of our facilities are under utilized thus the need to add students without the need to expand. A better utilization of our space if you will. Perhaps agibson can comment on this.  Added tuition while better utilizing space sounds like a program that will add profitability at minimal cost.  The new dorm is not so much based on need but rather as a means of attracting those who might not choose Valpo because of the older dorms.  It is just the first step in redoing the dorms completely. President Heckler told me that if we (a couple of years ago)if we had fiiled the dorms to capacity we would have one dorm empty.

The new dorm is definitely being built to accommodate the growing student population. This year the University re-opened 807 Mound St. and even with that addition all of the residence halls are filled to capacity, along with some lounges being used as temporary housing.

Do we all have to go stand in the entry hallway to watch the banner raising or are they actually putting it in the gym this year?  ;D

But on another note, that's disappointing to see that Senior Night is during spring break

It appears that Sliman is correct; the game is listed on the UCF schedule as part of the "Jackson Hewitt UCF Holiday Classic". I would assume that Valpo would receive a 2nd game in this as well since UCF is listed as playing both Rio Grande (Dec. 21) and Valpo (Dec. 22). However after googling the name of the tournament I was unable to find more info on the this Holiday Classic and any other potential teams.

Based on the existing facilities I would have to say that if anything were to be added (I don't see expansion soon) wrestling would make the most sense logically, while lacrosse would be my choice personally.

I'm not originally from NW Indiana, so I don't have any idea as to the popularity of high school/college wrestling in the area, but in most of the rest of the upper-Midwest (IA, IL, WI, MN) wrestling is a fairly popular sport which produces many great college athletes.  This could lead to Valpo getting decent regional recruits if a solid program were to be built by a potential new coach.  The only drawback to adding wrestling would be that it could potentially create an imbalance in the number of men's vs. women's sports scholarships based on Title IX, but I don't know all of the details on Valpo's situation in that regard.

Personally would like to see lacrosse added because it would be playable on Brown Field with little to no changes, would provide both a men's and a women's sport, and would add another fun spring sport to watch on campus besides baseball and softball (since T&F obviously can't compete at home).  Sure Valpo is kinda far west to be in the whole East Coast lacrosse craze, but the NCAA is hosting regionals at Lucas Oil Stadium next weekend which makes it look like they want to push lacrosse in non-traditional markets.  We would probably be a decent fit in the ECAC conference, which holds many of the "western" schools like Denver, Air Force, Ohio St, and Michigan.

Interesting to see that out of the 6 first round games completed so far the Titans actually kept the game closest out of any of the losing teams. Also cool to see that 2 of the Quarterfinal games will be in Indy at Lucas Oil next Sunday. Makes it look like the NCAA wants the sport to expand in the state of Indiana. Personally I'd love to see some lacrosse at Brown Field in the near future!

To say that switching out Loyola for Oakland will get start to get the HL at-large bids is getting a little ahead of ourselves.  I believe that we still need another program with consistent success or at least more name recognition before we can say that the Butler-era at-large bids will return. Even with a 24-7 regular season record this year Valpo was nowhere near the bubble discussion.

Valpo Basketball / Re: attendance for Valpo games...
March 02, 2013, 06:39:35 PM
Honestly when I was looking at colleges (Sophomore at VU now, so within the last 3-4 years) the DIII schools actually did promote their athletics more than Valpo in the stuff that they mailed out.  Granted at this time Valpo hadn't yet won a HL title in any sport so there was a little less to advertise than there is currently.  But DI athletics for free definitely influenced my decision to come to VU, which is probably not the norm on campus as of now.

The vote is all about school spirit, it would be nice to see the community get more involved with VU events sometimes, this is a great opportunity for it to happen
