A quick google search led me to Maravilla's client list. 12/22 of his clients are currently without a team. What an impressive agent. I was hoping Skara will be smarter than that. But if he feels that sitting for a year and then playing (or sitting on the bench) for new coaches and new system will improve his future... Good luck to him

Blocked from transferring to Vandy? is that even an option? Is his advisor at Vandy? ???

Ever since my first trip to the Pavilion, I couldn't stop thinking about how nice of a midmajor facility it was. I always thought that if they had a decent coach, the city of chicago and the building they play in should attract decent players.

Valpo Basketball / Re: Will You Cheer for Bryce?
April 13, 2016, 10:02:00 PM
I cherish the memories that Bryce created here. I am thankful that he left the program in a better state than when he took over. I love the guy and wish him and his family the best of health and success. Does that count as cheering for Bryce?

If the question is Will I cheer for Vanderbilt... my answer then will be: He!! NO!  Why would I?

ValpoDad, I hope you are not too sensitive. This forum will be very boring if a joke doesn't get thrown out every now and then  ;)

That is a very nice clip. I am mostly impressed with his speed. He has the body type of Derek but he runs the court faster than Vashil. He only needs to learn some power moves and how to play with contact.

In the article, Tom Davis says:
===
And in such, the Crusader leadership sent a strong message to any non-Division I coach – regardless of their success – that there is indeed a daunting – if not insurmountable - wall to climb if they ever aspire to coach at that level.
===

Does anyone see any thing wrong with sending such a message?
If you want to ever be a D1 coach, join someone else's staff and prove that you can recruit/coach at that level, otherwise, PEACE!

Valpo Basketball / Paul Oren-Thank you
April 09, 2016, 12:36:38 AM
I have followed and rooted for multiple college athletic teams before moving to the area and joining the Valpo family. As a fan, I have had my share of anxious moments when my teams went through big decisions (like a coaching change for example).

A major thing that stood out for me in the whole experience last week was the excellent, accurate, and timely reporting of Mr. Paul Oren. He was always on the ball (both tweeting and writing stories) and never said anything that was less than 100% accurate. I tip my hat to Paul for the great work he has done.

How did this thread turn from Micah Bradford's teammate to discussing unsubstantiated rumors about Jubril?

FWIW, according to my sources (students who are classmates of Alec), it is either NBA or Valpo.

President Heckler is saying the right thing. Remember that Bryce will eventually be one of our richer (if not the richest) alumni. You never know, someday, we may be playing in the Bryce Drew Arena  ;)

Coaches are professional adults who are being paid to do the job. Students, on the other hand are "Amateurs" with their only benefit supposedly being a free education. That is why coaches can be recruited while students should not be. I don't expect Greeny to understand that difference because at his level of thinking, everyone is a professional.

If we want any chance of a sense of continuity, it has to be Powell. Anyone else, no matter how great they are will basically be a rebuild job.

With all due respect, I am not a supporter of this boycotting and protesting idea. It will be punishing our team and players who deserve nothing short of our 100% support.

If we want to be a big time (in athletics) school, if we want to move on to a bigger conference, if we want to convince Bryce to stay in town, we have to ROCK DETROIT!!! One of the characteristics of the big time programs is that they travel well. It is time for us to put our $ and our time where our mouth is.

I am heading there along 3 other people.

If Jubril can consistently hit that 3, watch out. He simply becomes impossible to defend. He becomes (I can't believe I am going to say this) a more athletic version of Alec Peters...

In the last decade, a lot of focus has been on the building and construction of new facilities. These are nice but they come with the responsibility of maintenance and the burden of bills associated with them. Therefore, from a financial perspective, the endowments did not grow and the expenses did.
Another thing is that, with the new buildings, the university is growing but not at the rate that was originally expected.
At the beginning of this campaign, Dr. Heckler very wisely stated that no new buildings will be included in this campaign and that it will be an exclusively endowment campaign.
I tip my hat to the guy for making the less popular, yet responsible decisions.

The real question should be why does Slocum still have a job at YSU after 11 years of mediocrity?

I never root for someone to get fired, but I am really curious to know what does he tell the AD and the administration year after year after year. The guy must be a genius...just not in coaching.

Why is Bryce forcing Shane Hammink to be a backup PG?
Don't we have Max and Lexus to do that when Carter needs a break?

I am not questioning Bryce's wisdom, just trying to understand.

Valpo Basketball / Re: How To Increase RPI Today

So had we lost to Oregon State and beat Ball State, our RPI would have been exactly the same.
Can you tell that I am unable to get over that stupid loss?

My best guess is that Felder is asking for the minutes to beef up his stats and improve his draft chances. Kempe is just doing his superstar a favor.

Hey Grizz. It is not a shame at all that we both have good teams. I wish all the league did. That's the only way to elevate our conference. Hats off to coach Kempe for remaining humble and acknowledging Valpo is the preseason favorite. However, we all know that the preseason polls mean squat when the two teams meet on the hard floor.

We certainly are different. If Valpo football and YSU basket ball were the same, Dale Carlson would still have been our coach. Valpo Football and Womens bbal are struggling all right but it is not for the lack of effort. YSU basket ball is just.. YUCK!

I am not sure why we scheduled Chicago state but I will try to play devil's advocate:
1 - It could possibly be part of a H & H deal and we are getting chicago state next year at home. Obviously Duke or Kentucky will never do that.
2 - We want to play in chicago since we recruit there while Durham, NC and Lexington, KY are not so much.

I hate playing those games where win or lose, your RPI will go down  :(
