General VU Discussion / Re: Valpo Strategic Plan

Re: selling the painting.

The Georgia O'Keeffe painting must have been the best kept secret in Valpo. Everyone I talk to was unaware that the painting was in the Brauer. The museum will remain open, we're only talking about three paintings. When you compare that to the fact that Valpo needs to attract students, it's obvious the paintings should be sold.

Instead of complaining about the leadership, those who oppose the sale need to recruit students to attend Valpo. Turn the anger into something positive.

I think ticket prices are too high. If I lived in Valpo, I would think twice before paying anything more than $15 for a ticket. $35 a ticket for chairbacks? Forget about it.

I mentioned in another thread that Valpo signed an agreement with Van Wagner to take over sponsorships, media sales, game day promotions, and more. I believe they are also responsible for the TickPick ticket resale website.

Considering how the game day environment has declined, maybe it's worth revisiting that agreement?

I used to think 2008-2009 was the most depressing season of Valpo basketball. 2022-2023 might be worse.

What if we take a photo of the painting, sell the painting, and then put the photo in the same place?

Best of both worlds. :)

I just remembered that Valpo entered this partnership in 2018.

Attendance and game atmosphere dropped off shortly thereafter. Is that a coincidence?

What a public relations disaster as this definitely puts the feather on the cap of a not so stellar presidential run for Padilla. He's a shady guy and his desire to make Valpo an HSI is falling flat on its face. His hire of a new VP of Enrollment is another dumpster fire to his legacy. Getting ready to burn the boats soon with this sinking ship

This is a cheap shot that's uncalled for. I'm not seeing the evidence to back up these claims.

My worry is that, unless we see a larger commitment to the program from the university, we're going to have similar results with a new coach.

Maybe we keep Lottich but replace the assistants? Something has to change.

I've been as tough on ML as anyone else, but I also recognize that he's been HC during a time of massive change in college basketball and at VU.

In the fall of 2016 Valpo enrolled a total of 4,439 students. In the fall of 2022 Valpo enrolled 2,964.

That's a massive drop of students in a short period of time and may help to explain why the ARC isnt as packed as before. Then you have the transfer rule change and the NIL money and suddenly the world is a very different place.

I wish I could say that I'm angry at this loss. Instead, I just shake my head.

From a talent perspective, this team should be better than 5-13.

But here we are.

Valpo Basketball / Re: MBB Home Ticket Prices

I looked online and saw that it costs $10 to go to a GW game in DC. Tickets to Valpo games should be between $5-10 to get people in the door.

King is 6.5% from 3 in conference play. 2 for 31.

It's almost impressive.

20 point blowout win on the road!!

Is this our best road win in conference play since we've been in the Valley?

Barrett has really improved the past few games. Nice to see him playing well.

Feels nice to win! Good job Valpo.

The more I think about it, the more I'd like Valpo to take a good look at Tonagel. I think having a system and a coaching identity is important, which is what Tonagel would bring to the table.

Give him a 3 year deal and see what happens. Our program is at rock bottom so we can afford to take a risk.

This team has a real good shot at going 0-20 in conference play this year

QuoteAt least Todd still gives hope of a quality reason to listen to the game.

This is literally the only reason why I'm following Valpo basketball at the moment.

Down 25 at the half. Woof.

Another game, another loss. This game was winnable and we threw it away.

The march to 0-20 continues!

Does this team practice shooting 3s at all?
#72
We're now shooting 18% from 3 during conference play. (14-76)

Green is 15% (4-27)
Barrett is 11% (1-9)
Hedstrom is 100%! (2-2)

Apparently the lid on the basket has been welded shut. Yikes.

#73
I agree that Indiana State isn't the most talented team. But they get those most out of that talent.

I don't understand Valpo's rotations at all. I know that we have zero depth but why did Hedstrom not play at all today?
#74
Indiana State has better fundamentals. It's obvious they play as a team. It also doesn't help that we can't shoot the ball.

I think our colors are actually Brown and Fool's Gold.
