The local Applebee's on Rt. 30 has been closed for the past several weeks while undergoing major  building renovations.  I just got a card from them in today's mail that says, "Come see our new look."  Imagine that, spending tens of thousands of dollars to renovate a fully functional, structurally sound building so they can continue to serve the same food to the same people.  What could they possibly be thinking?

I think they were thinking that they had a massive fire in the kitchen that caused smoke and water damage to the entire building requiring the building renovation/rebuild

Just reported on WGN news out of Chicago, UWGB women's basketball coach Matt Bollant will be announced as new Illini women's coach tomorrow.

It is not a coach's right to continually be employed at a university, it is a privilege.  Just like what happened with baseball after I graduated, if you don't produce for several years in a row, it is time to go.  This is not HS, where teaching is more important than the actual coaching.  All of the things you mentioned come with the territory.  I was a coach (not head coach) for 2 years at a D-1 national championship semi-finalist a few years back, and you deal with all of these aspects.  If you have 4 seasons in a row where you are barely making 10 wins in basketball, a change is needed.  Yes, recruits fizzle out and fail to live up to expectations, but that is your (and the other coaches) responsibility to combat and adapt to.  If I have several months in a row of bad performance at my current job, am I going to be kept around just because I have been here a long time?  Absolutely not, and the same applies to college sports at the D-1 level.

My season tickets are in Section C Row N as well, we were able to keep our seats for this weekend.

Palm lives in Northwest Indiana, which is next to Chicago, governed by Indianapolis, and ignored by both.

I had just posted this in the On The Horizon boards, as it had to do with the league. I'll let the mods decide how they want to handle the multiple threads.

Hadn't given it that much thought as to where to put it, but I suppose it does make some sense to put it in the Horizon League portion of the board.  I'll leave it up to the mods to move/remove what they want.

We're reportedly looking to do a challenge series instead, sometime early in the season."

Well...slowly but surely some matchups are beginning to leak out...Per an ISU assistant's twitter feed, Indiana State will play at Butler

Has anyone else had any luck with the app?  It seemed like a fluke that it worked last night.  In general, the selection of live events seems very broken, at least on my iPod.

I use the app on my IPad to watch every game I'm not at.  I haven't had a problem yet.  I tend to use it with a WiFi connection, so that might be why it works so well for me!  Picture quality seems pretty decent...though I still prefer my seats in the ARC 

i really hope the loyola that is receiving votes isn't ours. luckily, there's no shortage of loyolas around the country, so i think we're safe.

The pregame article in the NWI Times mentions the final NCAA decisions on both Dino and Vashil.  Disappointing to hear Dino will never wear a Valpo uniform, but it'll be interesting to see what we do with the open scholarship for next year.

Due to sketchy service, give yourself well over an hour or you'll end up late for the game.

My only hope is that the guys can put this game behind them quickly and put their focus on BG.

Listening to IPFW's radio coverage, I find it interesting how they refer to this game as a big rivalry game...when did this become a rivalry?

I think we're missing the more important point here...if you don't stop calling them the "saders", people are gonna start thinking our mascot is a Jewish Passover meal. 

Someone posted earlier that another walk on may suit up to help spell I've...any chance that might be cam Witt?

I was told that the possible additional walk-on is a "student who spends a lot of time hanging around the ARC shooting and the coaching staff took notice of him."  I have not heard a name, and honestly hadn't even thought of Cam.  As I said in my original post on this, it was a rumor I heard, dont know how soon it would happen, or if it would materialize at all.  Definitely would be nice to have an extra big body though. 

Looking forward to a good win tonight with good amounts of playing time for Shelton and Carpenter.

Word I heard from some inside the program is Edwards is serving a 3 game suspension for some missing paperwork involving his transfer.  After the 3 game suspension the issue is resolved. 

Also, I'm continually impressed by Kevin's physical play.  Great to have a true big man. 

Hopefully we'll get Shelton and Carpenter some playing time against IU-Kokomo.  I also heard a rumor about another walk-on if Fernandez redshirts...someone to take some playing time from the big men in blowouts

This has an interesting article about the tournament.  It also states that we had committed to this tournament last week.  Interesting that we didn't hold out hope for the NIT.
