Valpo Basketball / Re: Javon Freeman Liberty

I feel he is going to make a full effort to make it pro this off-season. Maybe he'll come back to Valpo and be the Ja Morant of college bball! I'm guessing if he does return to cbb, he slides a little south and ends up at U of I.

Doubt he gets fired but completely unacceptable.

Excellent find.

Since we know it's for another 3 years, at least we know:

A) he'll be here next year
B) it's lengthy enough that he can still go recruit
C) we all need to hope like hell that we finish strong and build momentum into next year.

Not sure if I'm happy or sad about that find/contract,  but at least as fans our objectives are clear for another year or two.

Mick,

My first call would be to the Bears to see how they just pulled off hiring both at the same time :)

(And then don't do that).

We can't and don't want to be doing a coaching search in June. If it happens it needs to be in April, maybe beginning of May, when good candidates are still available. By June the coaching carousel has stopped (except for NBA moves) and players are on campus for summer session and doing individual workouts. Hard time to find a coach. Maybe MLB will have a new coach and contract in place before a new AD comes in so they don't have to worry about it for a few years?

Matt Hackman did 100,000 simulations for the remainder of the season.

5th - 1%
6th - 10%
7th - 53%
8th - 27%
9th - 9%
10th - 1%

So mathematically...not good.

Ah finally. A team we should be able to go 2-0 against. Always enjoyed getting to UIC and hitting up greektown or little Italy. Hope it helps us somewhat remain viable in Chicagoland and recruits can still "go away from home" while still being close and getting back for a game.

Good win.

Coaching still lacking...called a time out at the end of 1H that resulted in a turnover and +2 for them. Let them Play at the end of regulation that resulted in another turnover.

But we've all discussed our displeasure. So here to just enjoy the win. The players are obviously still scrapping.

While not trying to get political or scientific, I'm curious about population moves in the next 10 years with global warming/drought/etc. South Dakota, Idaho, West Virginia, Oregon, and Vermont were 5 of 10 states with the highest increases of incoming residents from a report I saw online today (but it was a subscriber exclusive). Basing decisions off market sizes seems a little shortsighted and easy way out, but again who knows what the NCAA looks like 5 years from now. Whether they like it or not, MVC is known as a basketball league. Get the best basketball brand you can regardless of market or league balance or whatever.

Came away impressed.

I really like the 1-2 punch of King and Krikke. As he continues to knock off some rust, King will  give us two players who can really put the ball in the bucket and maybe someone who should be double teamed.

Toss in Kithier, Anderson, and the others..we should be pretty good as we keep on finding our how to play with each other. Fantastic game by Gordon.

I know it's not allowed on here, but I'm excited for the rest of this season.

It's how it's implemented and the tolerance for noncompliance. I was involved in college Athletics last year and this year. Some places hope people abide by it and do nothing and some places have people tell you once and if they tell you again then you're out. I agree that it's nice to have it to give us the best chance of keeping a) everyone safe b) players on the court and c) fans in the stand. And if guests of the university don't wear them while on campus, we all know where we're heading.

First comes beer. Next comes upgrades from beer sales. Lol. We'll fix the scoreboard with another few games.

Valpo Basketball / Re: Missouri Valley Conference Rival

While they are solid games and an upgrade from HL, with the exit of Loyola I just don't *need* to go to any of those games like I did with Loyola. Hopefully that changes over the next few years...could be on board with Belmont being the main rivalry.

WMU has some talent. Norman came from Dusquene, Hastings came from Butler, and obviously Mileek. Should be a pretty good foundation for a MAC team.

Didn't start watching until the 2nd half but thought we looked pretty good. Good road W and now we find out what King will bring.

We are +6.5 spread and +240 moneyline against a 1-2 Jacksonville State. ESPN gives us a 33% chance of winning.

Woof.

I think we have the needed talent to achieve success.

Not sure about the coaching, though. Do we really want to be results oriented (i.e. if a ball bounced in and we won by a point we'd be having a different conversation versus a ball bouncing out). It's easy to play the what if game and I like to play it too. But if we look at the process/detail version of things, I can't say I feel the process is right, right now, even with the injuries. I'm still having too many head scratching moments with minutes, players, rotations, timeouts, etc. I try my best to defer to the coaches who are in practice every day and have a feel for those decisions, but it's getting tougher. Obviously the season is still young and it can be corrected, but I don't think even the biggest supporter in here would have ever thought we started out how we did against who we did in this important season.

I'm fearful the numbers will not rise much further than that. Cases in Indiana are up 40% in the last week and too many people simply don't want to be inside with hundreds/thousands of other people. Attendance for college football games is down and that's sitting outside. I'm glad that there will be *some* fans and I hope that they bring tons of energy...just not going to put too much stock into numbers either way and hoping by next year we can be more of a "return to normal" ??

The annual questions are happening already. Valpo admin, please make them stop. Matt, strictly in my opinion, is not going to get the job done here. Another season. More excuses.

Yes.

I'm so excited for the Belmont addition. IMO it pushes the league a step or two higher and into the regular multi-bid leagues instead of hanging on the fringes depending on the season, with potential of 3 (4?) teams. Teams will get two additional solid games (hopefully we ditch a nonD1 game?) to help their numbers. Also, Belmont will gain from the MVC for when they make the tourney as well. A few of their teams could have done some damage in the tourney but got seeded too low. We're all upset when an IL St or Belmont has a great season and gets snubbed.

11 teams isn't bad. You can still do a 20 game regular conference season where every team gets to play all the teams twice. I like the teams in the MVC and personally i like watching us play both teams twice. Any # above 11 you'd almost have to go into some sort of divisions. It's a great day for the MVC.

Feel pretty confident about it or wouldn't have shared it. it's just not one person's thought (shared some screenshots) and they write for a national CBB publication so there's multiple points of contact with media, staff, players, etc.. They broke a CBB story just last week and he alerted me a few days before it broke, so there's recent history of being accurate with early information. Of course things can get derailed at anytime before they are completely finalized or published, so will keep an ear out. I'm still nervous too because I wanted this since we joined and it looks to be finally happening. Would be extremely disappointing if it doesn't happen.

Also got a peak of their MVC preview. They have Valpo coming in 6th, AJ Green as POY, Drew Valentine as COY, and Kobe King newcomer of Year. Projects MVC as multiple bid league again with the top 4 (Loy, Drake, NoIA, and MoSt) having NCAAT potential.

I have heard it's done, it's just a matter of making it public. May be something legal about getting out, but Murray to MVC is dunzo.
#99
Just looked at Murray St message board to see what I could find. Lots of chatter there. Two pieces I found interesting

A) someone mentioned they turned down a meeting with the MVC earlier this week (before it was known Belmont was going to be joining)

B) there's speculation about joining the AAC and their president was in Dallas, headquarters of the AAC, the last three days.

Seems like they're going to be moving but where? Majority of their board is excited about potentially joining the MVC. Obviously if AAC is a possibility the TV money and contract makes that a no brainer.

Update: the above got me to check with some sources. Murray State is coming as well.  Great great news.

Yes yes yes yes yesssssss.

Power move. Nabbing two great programs.

Belmont may be announcing as early as next week.
