New one posted December 15.

Valpo #13 seed vs #4 Wisconsin @ Milwaukee

Couldn't believe he had Rhode Island as a # 10 seed.  Don't believe it?  Look at it

It's Lunardi, isn't it?  Enough said.

Doesn't mean it wasn't, but I would like to point out the word "suspended" never appeared in the statement that was released.  The words I saw were "will sit out, due to a university matter."

Sounded to me like an issue still in adjudication, but I'm not well-informed, so take it with a grain of salt.

It was great running into oklahomamick at halftime (and his better half).

Parking was much more of an issue than it was 3 years ago (I'm pretty sure I parked across from the arena in 2013).  I had to go 4 blocks away (didn't mind - got some exercise that way) and park in a self-service metered lot where you punch in how much time you need, your license plate number, slide your credit card in, etc.  Then you get a text message within 10 minutes of your expiration and you can respond to it to extend your time.  It was 1 dollar an hour originally, 75 cents per hour for extension.  And there was no one there to stop you from just parking and leaving, but the lot is monitored and I imagine they would tow you if you didn't pay.

Every once in awhile I found myself yelling out something like "that's travelling!" and the guy in the row in front of me who kept telling Shane to go back to whatever country he thought he was from turned around eventually and said, "you know the Valpo section is over there" (pointing across to the other side of the court), to which I replied, "I TRIED to get a ticket over there and there weren't any available."  After the game several of them remarked to me that it was a good game and I replied in kind, so it was all in good fun.

You guys remember that bottom feeder Loyola?

They are atop the Missouri valley now. I know it's only 8 games in but I never thought they would on the top of mvc.  Not at any point of the season.

He's hiding under a bridge asking three questions. (sorry, that may be a bit obscure for some)
Actually, he just wants you to throw him a treasure and he'll let you cross the bridge

Was that Danny Devito by any chance?

I was speaking of the Adventure game.

The really close Indiana game was 2000-01 season in the Hoosier Classic 63-60 at Conseco.  That was a very good team that started in the Alaska Tourney by beating Ohio State.  But, lost in the MidCon Finals to SoUtah (was that the infamous mono game?)  Dane Fife or Tom Coverdale (likely Coverdale) shot lights out.

I thought the Hoosier Classic game at Conseco in 2000-01 was against Purdue? I know I was at this game, as I had to change the time for my music jury to accommodate going to this game with the pep band. It was a fun trip on Fall semester Reading Day, that's for sure.

Valpo played at Conseco twice that season. Great story about the game against Indiana. It was during Christmas break and the morning of the game Karl Berner calls me and tells me he has an extra media pass for WVUR and that he can get me in. I drive the 280 miles from Milwaukee to Indianapolis and witness an amazing game. Coverdale knocked down a halfcourt buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of the first half which ultimately proved to be the difference in the game. I interviewed Mike Davis after the game and I remember he had the longest finger nails of any male I'd ever seen until that point in my life.

I was hoping to get back in my dorm room for the night back in Valpo, but they had changed the locks on Alumni Hall, so I ended up driving all the way back to Milwaukee. Around 3:30 in the morning, and 553 miles into my 560 mile trip, I hit a patch of black ice on the road during a blizzard and I spun into a ditch. The snow was fresh and loose so when I hit the ditch it lifted a bunch of snow in the air that cascaded onto my car almost like a waterfall. My car was immediately buried in snow and I had to climb out of the back to get out of the car. A tow truck came, pulled the car out and there was zero damage to my car. I drove the final seven miles gripping my steering wheel like crazy.

Oh my.  I went to the Purdue game at Canseco that year, and drove back home right after (to St. Louis).  Didn't get home until the following (Sunday) evening because the huge snowstorm closed I-70 for awhile.  With all the flurries, couldn't see much past my windshield anyway.  By the time the road cleared, I was in such a state that I kept having to stop every few exits and try to sleep some more.

But you certainly had the rougher ride after the IU game.  Trying to remember which game came first.

I thought a ranked SLU came to the ARC and escaped with a buzzer beater win.  I could have dreamt it...
They did, but I'm not sure they were ranked.

Some guy on NBA Draft Xpress did an excellent video analysis on Peters from the Oregon game.  No audio, the analysis was in text captions.  Pointed out his strengths and his weaknesses with an eye toward the next level.

I think BYU may well have gotten royally screwed on one over-the-back call in the 1st half, and Valpo may have gotten royally screwed on that Adekoya "Ghost foul" (per Reggie Williams) with less than a second to go in the 1st half.  There were probably a few other questionable ones that weren't all that aggregious.  By the way, the BYUTV guys on Friday were whining about the fouls too, though they are doing their best to fulfill their wager with our own Adam Amin to appear on screen for a future broadcast wearing Valpo T-shirts ;)

My assessment: a lot of fans (in Valpo too - I lost count how many times I corrected Valpo fans sitting behind me who were screaming about a foul call) still have not gotten the news that the rules against interference are going to be enforced.  "Let 'em play!!!!"  Actually, folks, the refs *are* letting them play - by calling the rulebook fouls.

I thought it was fairly well officiated.  When I watched the replay on Thursday, I had to admit that Mika or Davis might have made contact with the Valpo player on their end of the court, though I still thought it should have been a non-call.  In person, watching the replay on the big screen, I thought there was a slight chance Jubril pushed off a bit on that play at the end of the half, though it probably wouldn't have been horrible if that was a no-call.

I was thoroughly impressed with how the team played both nights.  It was just a real treat to be there, plus the banquet Tuesday night was pretty good as well.  I didn't count how many people were there, so all I got is a wild-ass guess of maybe 100?  Maybe 75-100?

I was amazed at how bad Alabama looked Wednesday Night against SLU.  It seemed like they didn't really start caring about winning until the final minutes, they did stay with SLU throughout, but I thought SLU outplayed them (except on the scoreboard).  The coach was frantically gesturing at guys who were not where they were supposed to be all game long.

As for our game, the MGM grand announcer was horrible (though the 2 guys doing the game on ESPN 2 were not all that great either).

Since Ball St is already included in the Middleweight Bracket of the Men Who Speak Up Tournament might our game with them become part of the event? They are already listed as a tournament opponent of Alabama who will host them.

has Coppin State at Valpo and Ball State at Alabama, so I guess not.

Bizarre. A podcast about a show that aired 15 years ago? Fans indeed.

You wonder how long it'll last.

iTunes?
Probably.  I just listened to off the website.

GB doesn't like it because they always hosted the women's side.  They weren't complaining when their men won this past season...
GBPG had an article a year ago when this was first announced.  "We thought it worked well the way it was and see no reason to change it" was the gist of the article, coming from a team that always hosted.  Of course it worked well for them and they see no reason to change it. ::)  :snore:

In Kampe's imagination, we are simply Mayberry.

In STL's imagination, all he can think about is Kampe :)
And Valpo beating him every damn time, I tell you.

Sarcasm usually contains at least a hint of sincerity behind it, and it's that hint of sincerity that I was responding to.  Your whole post sounded like you were trying to make a serious point.  If you mixed in a bit of fake outrage at the end, then yeah, I missed it.

I *did* see the wink smiley, but that didn't cause me to flip the whole script on what you were trying to say.  I took it as "I'm exaggerating a little here at the end, but otherwise, you get the idea."

One of the Walkers this year, I want to say.  All I know is there was no off-court news about him.

I know this will come as a big shock to everyone  but I'm still willing to buy that Kampe means it when he says that.

I also thinking being a Croatian in America is *fundamentally* different than being a Texan in Northwest Indiana (looking at you valpotx).  In fact it is exponentially more challenging.

Very well said, and best of luck to you in your new endeavor.

Quote from: ValpoHoops on April 21, 2016, 08:24:19 AMThe Horizon League today is not what it was when we joined for the 2007-2008 season. That's a simple fact. However, we are now the top dog and the other teams are shooting for us. Part of this is a result of our program rising and part is the result of some other schools falling on some hard times. As much as it hurts sometimes, there are days when I jump on the board and think "our people are starting to sound like the Butler fans from five years ago...those Butler fans that everyone complained about".
  :thewave:

I've felt the same way lately.

Perhaps he sees his playing time diminishing with the new recruits coming in and talk of playing both big men at the same time?  It feels like he fell a little behind Shane Hammink in the playing time thing as well.

As for the b.s., I hate to think that's coming from the new regime.  Perhaps it's an academic thing?  Or outsiders are feeding him stuff?

Just speculating about this makes me feel dirty.

It's his life, not ours.  Best wishes to David.

P.S.  The latter, it looks like.  Sorry to hear that.

I want to know too, but in half the posts in this thread I sense people leaning slightly in the opposite direction.

In this day and age, I tend to lean slightly toward the players.  I believe it probably happened at Illinois and Oakland, and there's probably other schools I'm not aware of who have dealt with this issue.

StlVUfan, I have a friend that works over there (WSCR) and I'll see what I can come up with. Apparently Holmes did an interview with Bryce a few weeks earlier and talked about that and Bernstein in particular mentioned how sad a state of affairs Chicago college basketball was in that we recognize Valpo as being a Chicago team. He went onto say how well we were coached and that we should get more recognition had a had a yada. To the point I wanted to hold him to his commentary and do a "who you crappin" back at him. I too love that segment.
I still have the LoHo interview on my thumb drive, I do remember that.  After the interview was over he said he'd changed his mind a bit after talking to Bryce about Valpo's worthiness for an at-large bid.

I will say I do not find Bernstein to be a power-conference homer at all.  When he grouched about the 2010 title game he was just as dismissive Duke as he was of Butler.  He was also pointing out to everyone that Butler was no Cinderella (they spent much of the year in the top 15 and some time in the top 10).  He's also a Duke alum who can't stand Coach K (and can tell you insider stories from when he worked for the student newspaper).  He likes really high quality basketball and can't stand "bad" basketball.  As someone who has no room in his life for the NBA, I just have decided to reside in a different College Basketball universe than he does, which means I change the channel whenever they start talking basketball.

And his family lives in Lubbock, right?

Either Gary Parrish or Andy Glockner was on twitter today defending the guy.
