Sounds like a really good hire.  A National Championship, Coach of the Year, and Upper Midwest (Purdue) connections.  The D2 things means nothing to me.  Mizzou hired a D2 guy and there is another guy who did well at the D1 level after coming from a lower level--can't think of his name now...OH WAIT!  I've got it!  HOMER DREW!!
