Update from President Heckler:

You responded to the matching-gift challenges with your generous support of students who are being prepared for lives of leadership and service. Although staff is still entering gifts, early numbers confirm we well exceeded 1,000 donors and surpassed the one-day giving record in Valpo's history. My colleagues in Advancement will be in touch to share the final results in the coming days.

Boooooooooooo, but congrats to football :).  It probably doesn't hurt that they have the most alumni, having so many people on the team each year.  Who won the most % of alumni then?  I believe that there were two prizes.

Men's Tennis won the percentage prize.

Baseball ended up raising the third largest amount of money (behind football and men's tennis) and had the sixth largest number of alumni make a gift. In the percentage competition baseball had a more difficult task, as the team actually has the third largest alumni group behind only football and track.

Together football and baseball make up well over a third of all Valpo Athletics alumni, as both teams are large in number and have been sponsored for the entire history of the Department.

Wow, I would have thought that baseball had the second largest alumni pool, behind football.  I didn't know Track had so many alumni!

If only I knew about this Valpo Day the prior week, as I made my main donation to baseball then.  I only did a $50 amount on Valpo Day, just to get counted.

Dear Alumni, Parents and Friends,

Thank you! After the "Proud to be Valpo" challenge on April 9th, there is no doubt that you are proud to be Valpo! President Heckler kicked off the day with an invitation to show your pride and get more involved, and your response was incredible!

There was a burst of social media activity featuring thousands of your Valpo photos, messages and videos. Thank you for sharing your stories and memories of what Valpo means to you. To view a collection of the social media buzz from that day, please visit the PROUD TO BE VALPO page.

Thank you for your financial support.  We are thrilled to announce that the University received gifts from 1,885 alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, and students on April 9th.  More than $280,000 in gifts were made to critical areas, with the Valpo Fund, the Crusader Fund, and the various Deans' Funds leading the way.  Please know that each and every gift will have a positive impact on the experience of our Valpo students.

Because of your incredible response, we met our initial goal of 600 donors, which were each matched with $50 thanks to a generous challenge gift donated by Barbara Schwarz '76. Through an additional challenge offered by Bob Hansen '82 and Kathy Christopher '82 Hansen, 1,000 more gifts were matched for a total of 1,600 in matching gifts. On behalf of the University, I extend our deep appreciation and gratitude for your participation and for your generous support of students who are being prepared for lives of leadership and service.

It was wonderful to see so many alumni participate in our first day of giving, and we encourage you to keep the momentum for "Proud to be Valpo" going and make your plans now to attend the 2014 Homecoming and Reunion Weekend. This year's theme is "Celebrate your Crusader Pride." If you wish to share your name on the list of people planning to attend, please click here. We hope you will join us.

Best wishes and safe travels as you prepare to gather with loved ones this weekend for a time of food, fellowship, and celebration.

Have a Happy and Blessed Easter.
