That Porzingis trade is great for Dallas but it's devastating for Rowdy

valpotx

I disagree.  Losing Matthews helps his case, with the fact that JJ is out for the season, as well.  He just played 27 minutes in the transition game and did well, as he needed to, in order to gain some additional playing time when the new guys join.  Porzingis is likely out for all of this season, so it is really just the 2 guards coming back, and I think that Rowdy can beat out Hardaway Jr. for playing time.

Rowdy has 12 points in 14 minutes of play, and is 4/7 from three in the first half so far tonight against the Cavaliers.

What I had forgotten is that Ryan's good friend Dellavedova is playing for Cleveland. I'm in Dayton tonight on business and am watching the Cav's broadcast on Fox Sports Ohio.

Interesting that Ryan had a foul called on him that he didn't agree with and he chased down the female NBA referee to make his point. I'm sure the word "ma'am" might have been in the conversation.

Great to see Ryan have another game with lots of quality minutes.

I must say, however, that the gray Mavericks' uniform is not flattering to Ryan's figure...

valpotx

He has positioned himself well for when Burke, Hardway Jr, and Lee arrive, so it will be interesting to see if he is fully back in the normal rotation, or just end-of-the-bench again.

As we head into the week before All-Star Weekend, current all-time Valpo players in the NBA scoring update:

Bryce  1081 (118 rookie year)
John Janisch  734
Milt Schoon  616
Bob Dille    296
Alec Peters  82 (20 games)
Ryan Broekhoff 65 (22 games played)
Don Bielke 14

Will he catch Bryce's 118 rookie year number?  Will he catch Alec by end of February?

Rowdy's 3-point shot looks the same today as when he was at Valpo, and now that he is getting some playing time, the NBA is getting to see it. PS: God, I miss this game atmosphere at the ARC!

Porzingis isn't going to play this season so any minutes he would have taken from Broekhoff won't be.

Could the Barnes trade mean a bump up in minutes for Rowdy?

He didn't play at all tonight after playing a lot of minutes and scoring 12 in the last game. Don't know why. Maybe someone who follows Dallas more closely has some thoughts?

The Barnes trade likely will cause someone on the team to be waived. Keep your fingers crossed for Rowdy!

Update: Good news for Rowdy. Looks like Mejri is the player to be waived:

It'll be Randolph he hasn't played all season.

Randolph can't be waived until after he is signed, so someone else has to go first, which it appears will be Salah Mejri.

VUGrad1314

I think all of this results in more minutes for Rowdy. Barnes took lots of minutes. Jackson Lee and Hardaway won't take all of them and all of Matthews' minutes. There should be some for Broekhoff. Plus without Jordan they'll probably play small a lot. Hello tired guards. Ryan should get some opportunities to show what he can do especially on any back to backs or 3 games in 4 nights situations.

valpotx

Rowdy will be fine, and get some more minutes.  I hate to see Mejri go, even though he didn't play much this season.  I think that it is stupid that we are trying yet another 'splash' in the offseason, as we always lose out.

Fun to see back-to-back threes for Rowdy, who must be thrilled to celebrate with a high-five from future Hall of Fame member Dirk Nowitzki.
