Fred King from Murray State just entered the portal. I didn't know he had any eligible time left.
Might be one of those "declaring for the portal incase an eligibility waiver is approved" situations, or "pending eligibility arbitration" type of thing.
The way I have read it. The NCAA doesnt want to grandfather athletes into the 5 year rule, but we will see how long that lasts. Or athletes will just ignore the rules until they become a problem like Alabama found out last season
I know @burnee77 is the resident MVC forum reader, but now that the transfer portal is closed. And all of those whom said they were staying haven't entered before the deadline. I think it is a good laugh to share that other MVC forums doubted the core would hold true to their word and expected them to transfer out despite the announcement of staying.
Respect has improved for Valpo, but there is still a deep lack of it throughout the league. Next season is a prime opportunity to change the narrative, or for other valley programs to scoff and claim that the league was "extraordinarily bad if Valpo was good"
You are naïve to think anyone who stayed this year is not a high probability of leaving after next season.
they can get more money if they stay this year and perform.
we have a long way to go to be respected in this league. More than just finishing 500 one season.

Hence why I said this season. The belief was " these Valpo guys are saying they are back. I'll believe it when I see it. Their attitude will change when the next highest bidder comes".
Like I also said. Respect has improved. But this season is a perfect opportunity to further garner some respect from a league that hasn't shown an ounce of it
Our NIL budget has grown substantially this season and with improved attendance and continued growth of funds, there is no reason to think we won't continue to be able to compete for talent in the Valley.
When the dust settles.........How many who entered the portal, transferred to a D1, DII etc or never found a home. Seems like those stats will be released from somewhere over the next month or so. Our donations have increased this year, impossible to know if this year will be the new norm moving forward. Having five or six of our guys returning from last year works in our favor in terms of attendance. The locals/the casual fan might attend more. Plenty of of money in porter county to fill up the ARC every home game, but now we have several returning and I'm thinking a preseason top 4 could be in the cards MVC Media days in September. Also the home schedule.......what's that looking like? Non con. Don't know if anyone else agrees, Is this the most optimistic off season since Alec Peters senior season?
Not the only one checking daily… boom!
Terron Garrett, 6'7"
With this addition, that gives us 15 players. Are we done or is Nick Lombardi still exempt from the 15 players maximum? Last year, we had 17 on the roster. So, that should have meant Joe Vick and Nick were exempt.

From what I've read, the designated student athlete waiver works for the entirety of a player's college career. Therefore, Nick Lombardi is still under waiver.
However, as others have said. This is likely the final piece of the puzzle
This kid, I'm sure was not highly recruited, as the college is in the middle of nowhere, but lets trust the staff, could be (no pun intended) a real gem.
The conference only stats for Garrett look pretty solid. 5.4 rebounds, 32-81 from 3 for 39.5%, with 42 assists vs 19 TOs. Is this a done deal?Terron Garrett, 6'7"
Yes this is 100% a done deal. Terron visited campus this week and played with our guys. The staff was very excited to get his commitment. The conference only stats for Garrett look pretty solid. 5.4 rebounds, 32-81 from 3 for 39.5%, with 42 assists vs 19 TOs. Is this a done deal?Terron Garrett, 6'7"
Regarding Burnee77 last post, you are correct that Mineral Area CC is in the middle of nowhere BUT they are always a very very strong Juco basketball program. Tarron was overlooked in highschool for several reasons. For one, most high school kids are overlooked due to the transfer portal (a circumstance that Powell has used to his advantage to get overlooked hs kids now for several years). Secondly, Terron was very skinny in high school (he still has weight to put on) but the kid can play.
