I was able to attend and was very impressed. I appreciated his analogies and sharing his experiences supporting his purpose and upcoming vision.

I have not had the chance to talk to President Konkol or the career center about this topic, but I want to see Valparaiso promote an externship program where students can talk to alumni, parents and friends of the university about experiences, career paths, and whatever worries or concerns they have. This is a very powerful program that I have engaged in with USC and Rice students, and I would like to see Valpo consider this.

@usc4valpo , I think you should drop Rev. Konkol and/or the career center a line, sharing this program and suggesting it as a possibility for Valparaiso. As you may have noticed from his talk, he's interested in both the personal/spiritual growth of VU students as well as their graduation outcomes and vocational futures. It's genuinely not an either/or with him, but rather, as he often likes to point out, a yes/and. I was fervently hoping that VU's next president would get that piece, and he understands it, deeply.

Valpo had a pilot project in DC a few year ago that did something similar. Student/recent grads would be connected to alumni in job/career fields they were interested in. It was successful in DC (a city where connections are important) and the hope was that it could be implemented in other cities as well.

I know the College of Business trains students on networking via LinkedIn, and the honors college just started a program last year to get students partnered with graduates in their field.

@david81 - thank you for your suggestion. I will write an email to President Konkol and provide an overview. Particularly for STEM students, the externship program at Rice has been mutually outstanding and actually an enjoyable experience.

@usc4valpo I hope you'll do that. It sounds like an excellent program, and Rev. Konkol is truly open to ideas. (The webinar idea hatched from an exchange we had about the Fan Zone site!)
