Yesterday, I had been busy doing stuff and then sat down around 6:05 pm and turned my TV on to Jeopardy. At that moment, the players were introducing themselves and one was a librarian from Valparaiso. I went and looked her up and she is a 2021 Valpo grad who is now a librarian at the Christopher Center. And she won easily! $32K. Her name is Grace Biermann. Hope she continues (or continued since the show is taped) to do well.
Grace was one of my best students, who also did intern work with me for a few years. She is an intelligent and delightful person whose personality came through on the show as an excellent representative for VU. She had some bad luck on the second episode since one of her opponents was fortunate enough to open all the Daily Double clues, and he was able to create an insurmountable lead, just as Grace had done in her win. I have had other former students appear as contestants on the show, but Grace is the first with a win. In her two shows, Grace had 45 correct answers and only missed 5!
Was sorry to see that she lost yesterday, but she had a tough competitor. Agree fully that she represented herself and the university well.
