Not sure what to make of San Diego this year. Win over top 40 Cal Poly. Brutal non conference and a slogging by Butler. Either Butler or Cal Poly is the outlier, with USD history leaning Butler. Win here and a winning season becomes extremely likely

I'm going back a ways here, and I may be way wrong but I seem to remember we've had two heartbreaking losses at USD. Maybe sometime in the late 1990s / early 2000s we had an excellent running back / return guy (named Young?) who was tackled close to the end zone on a kickoff return in the closing moments - a touchdown that would have won the game for us. And in Coach Cecchini's first year, I seem to recall that we lost on a late 4th down pass (it might have been the final play of the game) into the end zone for a game winning touchdown. I seem to recall the USD receiver was tall and our DB was much shorter, and the USD guy reached over the outstretched hands of our DB to catch the pass.

No one expected us to win, or even be competitive in that game since USD had given us a real beat down the year before.

Hopefully we give USD a taste of their own medicine this Saturday.

It is the usual thing for the PFL teams to be ranked so closely?

I confess I haven't paid close attention to this before, as I've simply wanted Valpo to squeeze out some wins against anyone. But now it looks like any conference opponent is beatable, especially if Valpo is underrated.
