It appears there are a number of Valpo admin who are “open to work” or moving onto new adventures. I assume this means the announcement for the new president is coming soon and the deck is being cleared for them.

This appears to be good news. Time to clean up and move forward.

I agree with usc4valpo that this appears to be good news. However, lots of senior admin leaving coupled with a new president starting in the summer would not be great. When searches fail, they almost always fail in the campus visits or negotiation - but I get the impression that the search committee has a good grasp on its candidates, transition, etc.

I agree with your confidence that the board has a definite preferred person pretty or i don't think they would have been as bold and hurried in telling folks the exact weeks of the interviews etc.

Let the weak link VPs leave whether we get the Pres. or not. That VU board member we've mentioned knows finances. And I perceive that the admissions hire is a home run. And.... I voiced my thoughts on the squirrelly priorities of the fundraising VP.  Let her go and start that search early so you can hit the ground running with hiring good staff.

Who else is out? Curious if these were cuts to one department or just a broad exodus.

I'm guessing that a lot of mid-to-senior admins -- including folks we'd want to stay on and others we'd want to move on -- have been circulating their resumes during the past year or so.

Unless you really believe in the institution and its mission, any university is just another stop along the career path for many professional administrators who tend to go from school to school. And given the leadership situation during the past few years, VU hasn't been an especially attractive place to be, especially if there's a perception (overwrought, I'd say, but understandable) that VU is taking on water.

While it's true that mediocre administrators can stay at a place forever, many of the best academic administrators are long-timers, committed to the institution and continually growing in their jobs. VU needs a team of people like that, starting with an excellent new president who is truly in it for the long haul.
