Congratulations Rowdy on being selected in the 25 man squad that will vie for a spot in the 12 man team that will travel to the London Olympics.   Fantastic recognition on your wonderful year, good luck and make us all proud  :)

Congrats indeed!  Hopefully he will become the second Valpo player to play in the Olympics (Joaquim 'Kikas' Gomes the other)!

Fantastic!  Congratulations!

Has he ever appeared with the senior national team?  I think probably not?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_national_basketball_team#2011_FIBA_Oceania_Championship_Team
has the roster from the 2011 Oceania Championship, where Australia beat New Zealand three games to nil (none closer than 13 points).

That squad featured only one college player, St. Mary's Matthew Dellavedova, Ryan's close contemporary who must have at least overlapped Ryan at the AIS.

Patty Mills was the only NBA player, three others play in Australia, three in Spain, two in Greece, etc.

Head coach is Brett Brown, an American, who's also an assistant for the San Antonio Spurs.

I notice my doppleganger's still playing.

Looks like camp starts June 2?  Paul Oren's piece for the NWI Times is at

You Tasmanian devil, you ;)

Here's hoping for much great success and a complete lack of injury, Rowdy!

Bleacher Report selects Rowdy among the nation's top 10 small forwards:

Wouldn't it be nice in the new season if we could get to see what he might accomplish at small forward most of the time instead of playing the 4 position so often!

wh

We've had several very good players over the years, but by next year at this time we may well be talking about Ryan being the 2nd best player to ever wear a Crusader uniform.

A great honor for Broekhoff, hope he makes the squad - congrats to him from a Butler fan.

Boomers maybe hurt by their coach, Brett Brown, having to stay in the USA with the Spurs for the NBA playoffs so long.

Thank God the Spurs are out now and the Boomers have Coach Brett Brown.  ;D

I think Australia can feel the Thunder.  :P

Hi All, thought you'd like to know that Ryan has made it through the first cut of the Boomers selection for the Olympics.   He is in a squad of twelve to play China in a three game series called the YouYi Games.   Will keep you posted on how he goes and any further news.

That's super! Best wishes going forward!

Congrats to Rowdy!

Which coach made the decisions on who got cut?

koala

That I am unsure the camp was run by Andrej Lemanis (New Zealand Breakers Head Coach) and Marty Clark (Adelaide 36ers Head Coach and ex AIS Head Coach) with them consulting with Brett Brown but as to who made the decisions about cutting players?

Times and website for following the Boomers' games.

Times on the http://freezone.iinet.net.au/channels/freezone/sport/boomers-basketball website are American eastern time zone.

Just in case you late nighters like me who don't have much to do this summer want to watch tonight/Friday night (early Saturday) 1 a.m./2 a.m., early Monday - 6 a.m./7 a.m. and early Wednesday - 7 a.m./8 a.m.

I assume the Boomer is in the green jersey in the drawing, China in red.

Watch games one and three, live, right here on the iiNet Freezone.
[looks like game 2 on Monday morning will not be on this website]

Here is the box score from the game: http://www.fibalivestats.com/matches/13/05/65/20/77r5w7L2H1s/

Ryan played just under 8 minutes, was 0/2 and pulled in a rebound.

I watched the Boomers vs China game 1 replay on the http://freezone.iinet.net.au/channels/freezone/sport/boomers-basketball website.

For you Chicago Bulls fans you'll be interested in the fact that Luc Longley helps coach the Boomers. Brent Brown is not with the Boomers yet as of Friday night/Saturday afternoon. It just seems funny seeing Luc Longley looking over Ryan's shoulder in the Boomers time out huddle.

Both of Ryan's shots looked good but both just barely rimmed out. The TV crew interviewed Luc Longley at halftime. By halftime the Boomers had shot only 21% and were down by 7, 32-25 to China. The Boomers rely a lot on the 3-point shooting of Peter Crawford and David Barlow.

When the speed of the Boomers starting wearing down the Chinese team the Boomers took over the game in the 3rd quarter, they were down by 1 at the end of the 3rd. And took the lead easily in the 4th quarter winning the game by 11, 66-55.

Bob Donewald, a former asst coach with the Cavaliers in the NBA, is the China head coach. His time out coaching is translated to the Chinese players.
