With 11 offers for QB and no one committed they better hope Duncan stays! Anyone hear anything? Now he may have an OL.

valpofb16

My educated guess is they are doing their diligence with Duncan and are open to him coming back

I'm also guessing Duncan is in the transfer portal

I'm triple guessing that if Nick Turner, Jack Jarnigan found no love in the portal than neither will Chris

I am not guessing however via their film that these freshman OL will be an improvement NEXT YEAR.

ValpoFB60

Not necessarily recruiting news, but received confirmation that Kenny Brewer and Cam Kelly won't be returning. On the other hand Chris Duncan is returning for his 5th year to compete for the starting job

Does he have a girlfriend in school, job prospects in NW Indiana or is his family rich? Why? Hope it really means he has a deep love for Valpo.

By my last count we have offered at least 22 QB's with an additional 9 that are listed as QB/DB. Almost all of these are still unsigned..

I met his father at the USD game and his exact comment to me was that Chris absolutely loved Valpo.

Does this mean that Nimz, Ruszkowski and Salyers aren't even in the mix to be the starting QB?

I'm not sure how the other OB's are never saw them play. But I am not counting Chris out as the starter especially for North Dakota. No matter who starts he will be good for the team with his experience.

Yep, Duncan at lead just reflects Valpo's commitment to the bottom of the Sagarin poll. Let's not try to improve.

Ouch!
The post said he was to "compete" for the job. Maybe he's either improved or one of the other guys wins the job.

valpofb16

From what I've heard the staff is very high on Saylers but let's not get crazy Duncan is most likely the starter.

The staff had 0 reason to not let Nimz play if they thought he was the guy, and same with Saylers the last four games.

I'll take a 3 year starter back who loves the University at QB, even with his limitations.

Moral of the story the team is returning 60 some kids and bringing in 40-50 new faces. The team went 1-11 last year. All 22 jobs should be open.

The RB position is interesting. Seemed very very obvious that plan was to make the sure 3 seniors (more seniors at RB than any other single position unless I'm missing something) got ALL the reps in 2019. While, on the one hand, you'd assume that they player performing the best in practice would get the most game reps, I also have to wonder how important it is that kids who play all 4 years or come back for 5th (like Early) get rewarded with playing time. 3 seniors at RB in a 1-back offense leaves little opportunity for the younger guys to get in, unless they are dramatically better than the seniors.

That being said... Riley does seems to have trouble staying healthy. Did he finish the season in a boot on the sideline? Any update there?

Seemed like Haugh didn't do much long snapping at the start of the season, but was called into action when the other kid struggled. Any chance he wasn't in the LS picture early because he was competing for time at RB, but once it became clear that he was needed as an LS, the staff saw him more as a specialist?

I need to fire up the Googletron and check out both of their HS highlights...

dcannon12

You guys seem to blame Duncan for the poor season, if not for him what would the scores have been?  Look at the team as a whole not just 1 player.
I'm sure you all watch college and pro football ( Brady's last play) lets not even start with Michigan! Lets hope Valpo gets skilled athletics and plays the most talented people. None of this moving on from the 5th years you want the wins.  And lets gets a little better at play calling and using time outs when needed.

The best players should play, period. The problem is we need better best players, including at QB

or best players playing better. Either way will help

usc4valpo

No player should be entitled to start because of their love of the school or because they have been part of the team for awhile.

dcannon12

No one said anything about entitlement.  How do we judge the "best player" stats?  Well Duncan's are not bad.  Judgement calls? Well that is a group decision in football most of the time   that is why there are coaches.  Football intelligence well that comes with experience. Physical ability?  Yeah you have to be a good athletic at this level. Duncan is one of the best athletes  on the team not my option fact look at his speed, footwork ect.  You all know there was NO OL for him it seems you are looking for a quick fix hey lets get rid of the QB Valp had a terrible season.  One thing I do agree no one has the stating job until the first game lets see the other QB's step it up.  They must not have impressed in practice  last year or they would have played them.

From Garfield Hts. Ohio
PAT: 31-31
FG: 3-5

Also had an offer from Rose Hulman

valpofb16

Indyvalpo thanks for picking up slack I admittedly short changed that one

valpofb16

I was looking through some stats and saw interesting tidbits on Duncan (didn't want to start a new thread for this)

-He had 63 more pass attempts this season.
-He threw for almost 100 less yards
-4 more interceptions
-4 less touchdowns

BUT

He did triple is rushing yardage and touchdowns. i do not think we will have the OL to commit to a full RPO scheme but I think Duncan was coming into his own as a runner last year. Hopefully Limbach realizes this and implements it into his gameplan.
