Tonight Wake Forest lost to BC to fall 14-14 on the season. Old friend Cooper Schwieger had 0 points and 1 rebound in 10 minutes of play.
On the season he’s averaging 5.2 pts/game and playing 20 minutes.
He’s making a boatload of money this year. And you can’t fault him for that. But I wonder if this year has stunted his future potential earnings as a professional. Would he have been better off, in the long run, staying at Valpo for a 3rd year?
Very good question. Unfortunately kids and their agents are focused on the here and now. Same for All. Nice season but are we worse off with Rockim et all? I doubt it.

Further to his stats, he's had one rebound in each of the last 4 games and his playing time has shrunk. He was never a mix it up guy underneath and depended on his length to both play defense and rebound. In the ACC that's unlikely to work much.
Carson Schwieger of Queens is currently playing Central Arkansas for the ASUN title
Cooper played really well for Wake last night. I think he had 10 pts but he was in the middle of everything on the court while he was in there. Defensively a force. I Wake gets Clemson tonight at 8:30 Central for anyone interested.
Just a final look at how Valpo’s past transfers performed over the season.

A quick looks tells me Carson and Devon proved to be the most valuable to their new teams while the busts included Isaiah Stafford and Tyler. Not sure other than Cooper and All that any would have made us better.
Carson with his 41% 3 point average might situationally have brought us significant value. One of my questions with him was his defense and even making 3 pointers will not bring you back into a game when the team can't make the defensive stops.
You could tell that Carson could play, but his role on our team last year was tough, since we didn't have any big guys to push around teams down low, so he had to play out of position. He'll likely be able to transfer up again after this season. Shaw had a really pretty shot that was just off last season, and he showed that if given more time to shoot in a lower league, that he can drain 3s. His mechanics were fun to watch, but he would always seem to just barely miss.
Per his Instagram page. All Wright intends to enter the transfer portal
Watching Kentucky play Santa Clara and 6'9 starting guard for Santa Clara is Jake Ensminger son fo former VU great Chris Ensminger. Born in Germany while Chris was playing overseas. Definitely a great name from the past.
Cooper managed to score 2 points and 1 rebound in 17 minutes of action as Wake lost to Illinois State in the NIT quarterfinals. Apparently the Missouri Valley defense was just too much. The off season will be very interesting to watch. It’s a grass greener kinda thing.(the cash certainly is greener!)
it is greener. he got paid. That’s all that matters
it is greener. he got paid. That’s all that matters
Perhaps for Cooper—in the short run— but what does it do to his value as a pro? Or to his value during the balance of his college career? On the other side of the coin is Wake. These people aren’t stupid nor spend thrifts. Post season evals are now underway. Does Wake think their money was well spent and if not, how does that impact Cooper? Now a guy not coming off an all conference performance at Valpo but rather a guy who scored 2 points and got 1 rebound in 17 minutes versus a middle of the pack Valley team.
If I were Cooper I would be hitting the portal for some of the same reasons All is in. He isn’t being used in a way that fits his skill set. Go where he can once again shine.
If we turn our attention away from players to coaches who left the MVC, apparently both McCollum and Schertz were successful, each taking his team to the Tournament and winning: St. Louis beating Georgia before losing to number-1 seed Michigan, Iowa so far beating Clemson and number-1 seed Florida.
