Here goes nothing! 6 days until Game Notes. Let’s win game one.
VU: 24
LT: 13
For the first time in memory, I have absolutely no clue how this team will perform. Guess we wait and see. A 24-13 win does not inspire optimism going into scholly Murray State two weeks later. A closer game or loss………….. 🤢
Tight margin against this level of comp (see Missouri Baptist and Trinity International scores) but winning is a skill and any win improves that
Two interesting former students at Lawrence Tech:
-Steve Ballmer took classes there while in high school.
-John DeLorean graduated from Lawrence Tech with a degree in engineering. Not sure if he ever drove his car above 88 mph while on campus if he was late for a drug deal.
Valpo received 23 top 25 votes??
I absolutely despise the term "Week 0." This is the first week of the season, therefore it's Week 1. Ugh. (No offense to the moderators, I'm just old and bitter about dumb shit)
I'm pretty sure the only reason it is called "week 0" is because technically the season hasn't started yet. Originally, Teams that do play play under special permissions and are usually in Hawaii or out of country or under special permission to play that week.
I dont know how that lines up to modern standards, but that seems to be the advent of the term

Just looked up the Week 0 vs Week 1 history; there is some rationale, although at this point it should probably be Week 1.
Lawrence Technical has only had 1 winning season; they get destroyed by top-ranked (NAIA) IWU and Roosevelt who we were able to beat in the past (barely). Hoping the team has a nice step forward in Waddle year 2.

@rezynezy yes, it seems to be true for FBS, but given that 115 FCS teams play in "Week 0" I don't think it's particularly relevant to Valpo's level. I completely agree with Paul, I refuse to say that Valpo plays in Week 0 and then has a bye in Week 1.
That being said, I think it's fantastic that Valpo plays at home as early as they possibly can. A home opener after 3 days of classes, during Welcome Week, should encourage at least a decent student showing. Less fantastic is the fact that we then do not have a home game for a month, but that's not the highest concern for now.
They are going to be better than people think. Schuster their QB had a 13:1 TD-INT ratio last season and started 8 games at Lafayette College (FCS). A WR from GVSU, RB from Concordia.
Defense by and large appears to be their problem. All will come down to Rowan. If we score twice we beat Adrian. If the offense is clunky with multiple INTs. This very well could be a loss.
