Valpo played horribly and lethargically and their best player, stud Peters decided not to show up. Not a good thing to do when you are on the national stage and being talked about as a potential NBA player.
Could any of US play very well with double and sometimes triple coverage. I sincerely doubt it sir.

Outstanding Post.

Rowdy deserves a lot of credit for his work ethic.  His Mom, family, coaches and fellow players in his "family" have helped to mold
that talent wisely.  Nothing but the best to you Rowdy.  Great Valpo career!  Good fortune follow you!

Quote from: ValpoGenXer on March 25, 2013, 04:38:42 PMYes, he's that good. It's been a long, long time since Valpo had a player who could do this.
I think that is a tad bit of an exaggeration. A nice athletic move but not uber athletic. I know that both Matt and Ryan could also make such a dunk, but doing it against D1 competition is a whole different ballgame. I don't want to get into a p!$$!^& contest but check out the 3A state finals video that I posted with the link on page 29 of this thread. McCall makes almost the exact same move down the middle of the lane only he slams it two handed and is about a foot higher off the floor than Yeo.

We will agree to disagree on the degree of Clay's athleticism.  You can also find on youtube a video of Clay bounding down the court on a breakaway dunk, in which he takes exactly 5 steps from the half court line to the middle of the lane, where he skies from 8 feet out for the easy dunk.  5 steps.  Again, I reiterate I haven't seen that at Valpo in a long time, if ever.

Ah yes, back in my days 62-66 Valpo had some very good teams under Bartow.  There was a "little all American" high hurdler who also played some basketball. He was Steve
Cook.  Now back then "dunking in a game was outlawed!  Ncaa's answer to Lew Alcinder aka Karem.  Before the game warmups were free territory, and Tom Smith (guard) would put the ball off the board and high, Steve at about 6'2" would come in and 2-handed stuff it as the exclamation point!  ;D  Elbows above the rim.

Yes congrats seniors, you guys made for exciting 4-5 years!  Your accomplishments now have a place in Valpo sports, forever.  Don't ever forget that.

Tx I will have to agree with you. Coach Donlon was definitely COY.  And showed it tonight. They will be tough next year.  And another question, who were the A$$ holes that picked them as ninth? ;D  My congrats to Coach Donlon.  Coach Drew, let's get on with the journey, NCAA + a few!

Now there's some help in the "marketing area", that didn't cost much.  Maybe an easy phone call, from someones office to the Mayor's office?
As we used to say in VU philosophy logic class, "TRUTH is stranger than fiction....."  Amen. 8)

Well done. Both teams left it on the floor tonight.  Our best just got hotter at the right time!  Way to go Rowdy! And every one of the Crusaders for
giving it all.  Now  rest a little, before we really finish business Tuesday night!  (Almost a mini-Pacer , coach Drew!).

I'm not sure if you would understand how deep that rivalry went. Those sleeve uniforms were historic and allows reminded Valpo fans of their rivlary with those dreaded purple guys from Evansville.

I can still see Jerry Sloan and Larry Humes playing in the old Hilltop Gym (expanded in 1962) with those sleeve tops.  Damn, they were good.  And so were we, but not good enough.
Yes, but just a few years later 1966 Valpo did beat then reigning champs Evansville at Hill top gym (packed too).

It's really nice to see the guys come off a week layoff, fresh legs and focused to win a big one.  From what I saw down in Texas, their sports writers were a bit surprised to see the #5 ranked Mid Major get knocked-off at HOME!!! ;D
Well done Crusaders!  Now for the conference season, keep those W's coming!

Then Rossi sinks the next two shots.  5 pts on 2 trips not bad.  But he really needs  to work on that defense, too!! 8).

My thoughts and prayers go out to Ricks' family, and also his Basketball Family at St. Louis.  Gods' Blessings to you all!

John Meyne played for coach Tom Smith during the 82-83 and 83-84 seasons.  He was a tri captain with John McIlvain and Tom Benigni 83-84.
A really nice player all-around.  He helped beat Butler in the last home game in Hilltop gym 76-73 1984... :)

I hate to see this season being ruined by all the negative talk.  In regards to an HL statement or whatever, doesn't the "deafening silence" answer that question?? :twocents:
